What is it about Tales games that hits that sweetspot of complete mediocrity?
If it was slightly worse I'd never touch them. If it was slightly better I'd actually have fun. But I've played 5 Tales games so far and I can't say I enjoyed any of them, yet I keep playing.

its the combat systems that keep me coming back. real shame no other devs copy this for their rpgs.

Zestiria is such a snorefest but I honestly enjoy Armatiziation so much. It's fucking cheeky anime bullshit but I love it. Also neat howyou end up looking like Artorius when you armatize.[/spoilse]
The only Tales games with characters / plots I've enjoyed were Abyss, Vesperia, and Berseria.

Great combat mechanics.
Amazing character interaction.
The full package isn't anything spectacular, but it has its own unique charm no other JRPG has.
