Well Payday 2 was given away for free recently as well so the player count saw a massive spike, Evolve has also been abandoned I was playing it quite a lot after it went F2P because updates were so common. I've unlocked about everything and with no new content the gameplay gets stale.

I still don't see how MOBAs continue to stay popular I feel like they hit their peak of popularity already. I played LoL for about a year and DOTA way back on Wacraft 3. I stopped playing DOTA back then because the community was fucking awful, it didn't change it the slightest in LoL. I won't go back to MOBA's because the communitys are universally some of the worst in gaming. I'll occasionally play a few rounds of TF2 or CS:GO from time to time but not much. Had enough of CS after putting over 500 hours into CS:S.

Very true, can bet you games like Dead by Daylight as an example would be nowhere near as popular without that sort of progression it has. It would take hundreds of hours to unlock everything in that game.

Just look at CoD, its multiplayer got extremely popular when they added a progression system in CoD4 and its been shoe horned into every multiplayer FPS for years. That kinda shit makes its way into way more games than it should.

I didn't play until about 2 months after launch so not sure how 1.0 was but its a lot less grindy now then when I started. The bloodwebs are overall smaller and you are given two perks to choose from per level.
