I remember the exact moment when I gave up on competitive multiplayer shooters.

I was playing MW2 on the 360 at a friends house shortly after its release when I was 14.
Just a regular TDM, nothing special, and I got a k/d of 2/40. And I actually put down effort.
My friend got legit angry at me for being terrible, and it just hit me that I found 0 enjoyment from the game.

These days the only time I play a multiplayer shooter is the annual Quake 3 LAN with my old HS friends. Which I always end up last at, but it's all in good fun.

You can suck some RPGs, though. Do shit character builds, upgrade stats thhat don't synergize, choose bad abilities, make parties with no synergy, etc. For instance, Bravely Default can be beaten at a fairly low level, if you can figure out how to do powerful character builds that synergize well. If you can't, then you end up grinding to level 99. Obviously, some games have more of this than others.

I kinda do. I can get decent but I can never reach high level. I've done SL1 challenge run in Dark Souls and played it hundreds of hours but I still get killed by bosses often because I just can't maintain focus when the fights get drawn out for long and I'll fuck up with roll timing et cetera.

I'm shit at fighting games and not great at FPS. Which is painful because fighting games seem like they have the most fun community to them- no other type of game can quite come close to the same kind of experience. Dark Souls PVP is a kind of similar experience I suppose, but it's still not the same.

You can play a shooter and just aim and shoot like an idiot, or you can take some time to think how to flank an enemy, how to predict where they will go (and how to bait them), when to engage and when to retreat.

I got good at TF2 after practicing a lot, same with Quake 3.

Is it really that easy? I could play fighting games and battle through the story mode, but that doesn't mean I'd stand a chance against actual human opponents in online lobbies.
I play games from many different genres yet I don't feel like I have superior skills. I think I'm also a bit impatient in games, and would rather get hit and stuff to finish a fight quicker, than to put in effort and properly evade and draw it out.

I've traditionally sucked at vidya but I find that the more time and practice I put into it, along with looking up guides and advanced tech/strategies on YT, getting advice from people who are actually good, then I can make a ton of improvement. My issue is motivation. I'm depressed so a lot of the time I can't really find the motivation to actually play vidya. But I'm definitely better in general now than 10 years ago and definitely better than when I was a kid. I still have a long way to go, though. My preferred genres are fighting games and cuhrayzee. Definitely better at the latter than the former, though. In general, I'd say that I was probably at intermediate or advanced level of skill, aside from fightan and I guess shooters, but I only enjoy those more casually anyway.

I'm complete shit at turn-based strategy games, though. I love to play them but I can't form any kind of actual strategy to save my life. That's probably why I've almost never beaten a single one of them.

I've realized I don't have any natural talent when it comes to fighting games. They don't come easy to me. Exactly this. I do the same with cuhrayzee too, except for the 'playing every day' part. It's been way too long since I've played DMC/Bayonetta/NG, etc.

I also don't do that with fighting games honestly, even though I know I probably should. Sometimes I'll go a day or two without playing and worry that I'm going to lose my skills but I generally find that it's and uphill slope and I still end up improving over time, which is nice.

This pretty much. The VN and anime are both pretty fantastic and work well together, but the nature of the game being a VN allows it to give a lot more context to the story. The side character plots are also far more fleshed out and made me have a more fond of lesser-developed anime characters like Faris.

This. I used to pick up and learn games so fast, played games on hard from the get-a-go and died as much as my friends did on normal. Now I'm just plain slower and I have to do so much more effort to reach skill levels in a game that were once so easy to me.

I used to wonder why people even bothered making turn-based games before (when even strategy games were more entertaining in real time RA,SC,etc.) but now I'm grateful for them. It's good to know there's a lot of titles waiting for me once my reaction speed becomes greater than 500 ms.

Incorrect, Final Fantasy IV was too complicated for me and I stopped playing because I didn't like having to waste an item or spell just to find out what it did since there were no item descriptions and the names were abbreviated. Same with every other JRPG I've ever played besides Pokemon.

I took a break from vidya from about ages 17-23 and even when I was playing them I never really felt the urge to gid gud at many of them. Closest I ever got to esports or whatever was placing 1st/2nd in a few tournaments for Melee around my home state.
When I came back to gaming after the hiatus I just found that I wasn't terrible or exceptional at anything, so now I just try to have fun with games.

I spent an entire evening, around 5 hours, trying to beat Lud and Zallen in DaS2. I think my average number of boss tries in that game must have been at least 20. I think the Lightning King and Midir from DaS3 also took around 3 hours each to beat.

You get good at anything and everything with practice. The reason people keep practicing is because they're having fun. If you're trying to get better at fighting games not because you have fun playing them but because you saw a tournament and was impressed with the player's skill and wanted to get to that level, you're likely to get frustrated because you're doing something you're not having fun with. I used to choke so hard in intense 1v1 games (UT2k4, KOF99, WC3), I literally would fail at the simplest combo or make the stupidest all-ins. That and I have pretty low APMs. Now more than anything I just don't play competitive that much. Best I've done "competitively" is probably in FF14 where I was in a couple of server firsts or top 10s in PvE content before I quit.
