One thing that we did on a private C4 server a few years back is we'd have a group of roughly 7 people/7 characters (who weren't in our main clan) who would go on PK raids and kill everyone who isn't giving us free shit whether it was adena, a chance to finish the subclass quest for Baium (yes, they were stupid enough to allow us that. Although we were somewhat helping them to defend the teleport to Baium) or resources in advance. We'd kill people from top clans or random guys who were farming Cruma tower or ToI, doesn't matter. The most satisfying thing for me (Overlord player) was to stun the enemy character and reaggro the mobs so that they kill him and he potentially drops something whether it's a piece of armor set or a weapon. A war trophy, you know. However, that only ever happened to me once.

How is Lineage 2 modding?

I remember servers having tons of shit, like custom items and custom NPCs - granted, they were still made out of the same assets, but they had some cool features.

Is it feasible to mod Lineage 2 into a slightly different kind of game?

Every private server I ever played was broken in half compared to retail. Except for Good vs Evil. That was arguably the best mod anyone had ever done for the game.

Also the only good PVP classes were Archers and Mages. Sometimes Daggers depending on which update. Everything else sucked in comparison, tho it was pretty OP when Tank classes could root and change peoples targets with hate/aggro pull skills

Still good times. Too bad the game is pay to win and no one wants a classic server in the NA

I hated how everyone was botting and buying adena and I always got left behind and get rekt because I didn't want to.
Then again, my fondest memories are of when me and my friend used to get into noob PvP fights with chinese farmers and annoying players who just wanted to mess around. I never had such fun in a MMO ever again after l2.

I only played pirate server, because I was poor bumfuck middle school eastern europoor fuck.

They were great, if not for the fact that they get wiped quite often, mostly due lack of funding (or too much funding, and admins running away). I don't remember many of those, I know that I've had the best time on Hobby (x3) and Abyss(x7), but there were tons more.

I've tried to go back, after they launched F2P on the retail, but that the first levels were just terrible pandering to newfriends. No necessity for low level crafting.

I always have nostalgia boner when I think of this game, but I probably wouldn't be able to play it any more with enough enthusiasm, to get past 65.

I loved how in early chronicles being PK meant that when you die, you lose your shit. This was fair punishment for those who PK without a plan or a backup, I don't know when, but at one point they just changed it, so even when you die as PK you wouldn't drop anything.

Kind of ruined my sense of justice, because I was always a scrub who got killed.

In early chronicles, everyone had a chance to drop something on death. Later on they've changed it so that only PKs drop items, and in post-kamael patches PKs would drop items only if their PK counter was greater than 5. At least that's how I remember it. In Classic it's the mix of two: everyone can drop items if they are killed by a mod, but only PKs with PK counter grater than 5 can drop items when killed by other players.

That sounds a lot better than what I got. I'm sad that I missed the golden age of MMO's because I was too young to pay a subscription fee. I could never convince my parents to pay $15/mo for anything, so the most I got was the $5/mo Runescape subscription.

I love that game to death and I still play it on-and-off, but I should have spent my childhood playing things like Everquest, Ultima or Lineage.
