We've seen gameplay, the game looks fine. Mercury Steam had more control over how the Castlevania game was made, and this time it looks like Sakamoto is in full control, and Sakamoto said there won't be any Other M story bullshit this time.

Nigga I said it in the other doom thread, this game is not gonna be bad. Case 1, and hell this should make the haters stfu right away, is the map layout. The game is already a good deal big from the start, the surface caverns are not point A to point B caverns, there is proper backtracking for the first poison barrier as in not hitting a dead end and then going through a corridor and back, and even THEN there is a huge area right of the first alpha metroid that is still a dead end anyway, which is much superior to what was in RoS before the surface alpha. I have faith from the map design alone and you should too.

For the last time, does anyone else think this game looks a tad bit too slow? I think the decision to have freer aiming is going to bite this game in the ass. Older 2D Metroid games never needed anything like this. Aiming directly above or below you, or aiming at 45 degree angles worked and it allowed you to shoot at whatever you needed to without coming to a complete stop most of the time.

That said, I'm not completely writing this off and supposedly, if you're playing on a N3DS or have a Circle Pad Pro, it's much better, which does relieve me a bit. I'm happy we're finally getting a new official 2D Metroid but this and the melee attack thing kinda make me feel like MercurySteam don't fully 'get' it, although the melee attack was probably Sakamoto's idea.

Hell, I could very well be wrong. I'd like to be surprised when I play the game myself.

I'm less concerned about the graphics, honestly. They COULD look better and they could've chosen an art style that lended to the mystique, sometimes creepy, and isolated vibe that the Metroid series has, but it's not terrible either. It's serviceable. Would I prefer something like pic related? Hell yeah, but there are more generic-looking games out there.
