Currently, controller mode has no way to individually curve your thrown punches while motion does have the individual control.

It remains to be seen if that's a real dealbreaker but it sounds like motion controls do eke out a bit of an advantage.

And much like Splatoons gyro controls, I've found the motion controls to work perfectly after some practice. Guess all that Wii boxing and Punch Out experience went into making the motion controls responsive.

Not unless you're playing split-screen multiplayer.

You can use traditional controls. I would suggest trying motion, however, because there are slight differences between the two, the most blatant being that you cannot curve both of your punches in different directions at the same time, while motion controls allow you that ability.

Motion controls are solid and responsive once you put in time to learn them. But there's not a big difference overall between either method.

Pretty much like any fighting game, needless spamming gets punished easily, how you throw a punch is important since you have to aim where your opponents moving towards, and generally landing even a regular hit can be tedious against certain characters and players.
It looks mindless, but it's only as mindless as you want it to play out. Execution is all in how you aim and when you time your punches, cause if they out flying your a sitting duck.
