The game started off pretty strong, but they didnt explore any fucking gray area at all and nobody is held accountable for their actions other than joker who spends like 2 months in prison lmao. By the time you get to the Futaba messing with his phone bit at the 6th palace, that's 90-100 hours into the game. You are not going to bullshit me or anyone here by saying you remember the pancake line. I mean, even if you pick up on it, you seriously are going to say "oh yeah, that's vital and I'm going to remember that 50+ hours later". Just fess up someone spoiled the game for you and take the loss.

I didn't have the game spoiled at all and I remember picking on the line, then forgetting it. By the time Futaba messed with his phone by "mistake" and there were white outs in your memory, I knew instantly something was up right there and they were already setting up the traitor. I didn't want him to be the traitor because I liked his sword and gun so much.

Blackmailing us, Futaba messing with the phone, those are 2 redflags that are hard to forget.

Rather, their desires have distorted/skewed their moral compass to the point where they can't distinguish right from wrong anymore. A "change of heart" (be it stealing the Treasure or just convincing the Shadow) is basically having them realize the wrongs that their desires have brought onto their minds. In fact, it's a very ridiculously optimistic view on humanity with how it immediately assumes that everyone has an inherent understanding of what it means to do good or bad.

Adding onto this, while the game never simulates a scenario where the PT accidentally goes after a random, it does show their awareness of the dangers of their actions when they chastise Mishima for wanting them to target random celebs that piss him off even if they didn't do anything wrong (you only get this if you go through Mishima's Confidant story far enough). It shows that the PT are much more deliberate in their targets by actually investigating the crap surrounding them instead of just going in blind just because someone annoyed them.

That's only the beginning of the game. They all (except Riuji) start questioning the morality of what they're doing.

For fuck's sake, you're playing Yaldy's game through out the either game, he's a corrupt god of order, and as such, he has you thought police people telling you your doing the greatest good.

Then the big revelation is that first off, people don't need to get thought policed to have a change of heart, and secondly the corrupt people where simply evil, they were all people that where tired of being part of fatalist, apathetic society. For heaven's sake, a big point in the story was that everyone cheered the PT on when they where changing hearts, but any moment believe in them became hard people immediately started going like "well, I never believed in them anyways".
