What matters in the videogame industry is, well, the games.
As long as Sony has a big a diverse pool of studios working for them in delivering quality games, I don't see why they should be worried about the gimmicks of the competition.

The Vita is only really even surviving off cheaply made anime games and ports of mostly anime games that're also available for the most part on Steam or PS4. With the Switch and the XBOX, Sony can't boast it has the most powerful handheld or the most powerful home consol. I doubt the XBOX will dethrone the PS4 as it is mostly marketed towards people who already own a regular X-Box One looking to upgrade. If it's lucky, it might convert a few people from PS4 or PS4 Pro. But Microsoft at least seems to have a long term strategy in mind and if the Switch sells more units within the next two years than the Vita in its entire lifetime, a lot of the people who support the Vita might just jump over to the Switch

Sony leads on console sales and exclusives so they're just trying to coast out their money train while their other, non-Playstation divisions fall apart slowly but surely around them. Why bother with backwards compatibility when your install base is dumb enough to rebuy classics digitally or use Playstation Now? Their biggest risk was PS4 Pro and VR ahead of the curb, but consequently the Pro isn't much of any sort of tangible advantage or benefit for most games and an overly expensive piece of shit if you want better framerate in the case of not having a 4k TV. Meanwhile VR has no good exclusives except Resident Evil 7, and that's only by year-long technicality; which is something they're attempting to remedy but not very well.

Sony is sitting on their cards and hoping their broad developer range rakes in the money for them like it has been. The consumer isn't always right in their eyes, which is technically true but they're going to Blizzard-levels of "You think you want it but you don't."

While PS4 sells more, X-Bone has still sold 30+ million units. That's nothing to scoff at. While most of that is North American sales, really the only markets that matter in the gaming industry are pretty much America and Japan. Sony barely is able to beat Nintendo in Japan and that's just cause X-Box has no market there, but with the declining state of home consoles in Japan, much of Sony's lifeblood relies on the American market. If it lost that, it wouldn't really matter if a bunch of Europeans still bought Sony, especially when there's rising competition from PC gaming (an industry Microsoft dominates worldwide).
