This is why I loved the Ranger difficulty mode in the Metro games. Both you and the human enemies were equally as vulnerable, but the true difficulty came from the lack of HUD and scarcity of resources. Plus it made those military grade bullets all the more precious when shit goes south and you're having to fight off a bunch of monsters.
