Why did the faces get so ugly and worse after xenosaga III?

I guess it's a really petty and trivial thing to get autistic over but I really wish they tried to emulate what they had going on with ep III. It still holds up really well today.

Xenoblade Chronicles > Xenoblade 2 > Xenosaga III > Xenoblade X

XC2 has the best faces yet just because they're the most pleasant to look at.

XC has the most unique ones though they're very similar to Vagrant Story and FFXII.

Xenosaga is just standard PS2 style and XCX tried to be unique and pushed it too far.

Xenoblade looks way worse than I remember. The low res must have hidden all the flaws. Anime look xc2 has going for it is loads better than xc1

XCX's faces are modeled on the art of the guy who did character portraits for Xenogears. He's a fine artist but 2D does not always translate that well to 3D.

Couldn't tell you what the fuck went wrong with the other games though.

While I think xc1 looks bad in OP's picture they did a good copy paste of adapting the original concept art to 3D

well, in case of XCX, it kinda makes sense that the faces look uglyyou know, the whole Mimeosome thing
also, look at Xenosaga1, then you know what ugly is
