I been replaying TEW since the announcement of 2. On Akumu and it's not so hard. I already beat the game before like 5 times, So I got good a long time ago. Using the check points to your advantage is smart tho

I'm at Chapter 6 right now. When does it go to shit? The intro stealth segment was abysmal and the fact that burning corpses doesn't burn live Haunted is disappointed, but the rest is pretty solid so far. Yup I'm hype as fuck for it. I the first one up on PC to play it again since I played it first on console. I set it at 60fps and got rid of the borders but it seems like the game stutters a lot randomly, I looked online and it seems a lot of people have the same problem, just wondering if anyone here knows a way to alleviate it to a degree. Ruvik's influence extended beyond STEM. The moment the beacon was set off by Jimenez, Ruvik was able to draw his influence onto anyone who heard the siren, and that's how he gained the power to kill people through supernatural means. His main mode of "transport" was through eye contact with people, thus jumping from person to person "infecting" them.

Uncertain. Mobius took his seemingly brain-dead body away.

Probably not, if the DLC and ending were any indication.

Kidman didn't jump in first. She was only given a serum to prevent Ruvik from "infecting" her like what happened to Seb and Joseph. The serum also acted as a form of brainwashing which was the cause of The Administrator popping into her head and constantly tormenting her to stick with her mission.

After basically saying "Fuck you" to the serum/The Administrator she woke up after Seb defeated Ruvik. Seb was out cold after the experience but defeating Ruvik meant that Kidman could finally get out of STEM and she bailed Seb.

Yeah, it seemed like Ruvik was going out of his way to target Sebastian so I was expecting him to have some personal vendetta against him. With Sebastian being a cop it would be pretty easy to justify too. Maybe that would be too obvious but putting a personal stake in it would still be better than him just being a dick I think.

I mean it more like we see Kidman running around behind the scenes always, and in her DLC and extra tapes/notes she's a lot more involved. Kidman's involvement combined with how much of Sebastian's encounters with Ruvik are just "Watchmen growl then headache, cut to new scenery" make Sebastian feel dwarfed compared to her despite being the protagonist of the game with some impressive feats under his belt.

Another thing is where is Lily? In my opinion Lily is somehow a vessel for Laura, perhaps by provoking a fire near a kid you give them PTSD (in this case I guess Lily would be traumatized by the fire) so they can be easier to control. If we go by sequence of events:
>Jimenez turns on STEM terminal at Beacon Mental Hospital which lets out one huge psychic siren
>Ruvik's influence covers all the surrounding area that could "hear" the one siren (including Seb & co.)
>Anyone influenced by Ruvik gives him access to confront/possess them, thus he kills everyone in the hospital and the incoming police force
>Seb & co. (still in real world) go into Beacon Mental Hospital but get knocked out by Ruvik's influence and dragged into STEM
>Seb & co., still thinking they're in the real world, escape the hospital with Leslie but they're actually in STEM under Ruvik's influence

That last part only became clear on my second playthrough and it was mainly hinted during the sequence where Seb is getting dragged around on a stretcher by doctors before figuratively getting molested by a Haunted.

I never finished The Evil Within, it felt like a poor man's Lynch attempt, "look at at how we change location, and arbitrarily cobble up a plot, are you mindfreaked yet?".
Beside the fact that it ran poorly and it had at launch locked FPS and that stupid blackbar, fixed only later on.
The melee, was just made to bait you into wasting points, since it was useless from the start.
The game stopped being scary and started feeling like a PS2 TPS, plus stupid sidequests just to create padding like "hurr durr I lost my glasses".

And of course, a CLIFFHANGER.

Maybe I'm just shit then, because at the start of the game stealth is basically required unless you enjoy running away/wasting ammo. Especially in that first village. If you don't play it stealthily then you get mobbed within seconds. There's definitely an emphasis on stealth, but if you're really good at the game I guess that doesn't really come through. Regardless, the stealth was finicky so it could be improved.

And I disagree about effective melee breaking tension. Look at Dead Space 1 or RE4. Dead Space 1 gives you a pretty shit melee where you just swing your weapon like an idiot. It can do some damage, but you can still get punished really hard if you do it at the wrong time. It still feels tense even with okay melee. Similarly, RE4 could feel tense since you have to aim at the right parts of the body to get melee going. Either way, melee doesn't have to do a lot of damage just make it stagger enemies a bit more that never. Seriously, other than actual melee weapons using melee was nearly always a mistake.

Same. But sometimes it felt like enemies would just sense you out of nowhere or suddenly decide now is the time to turn around and fuck you over. The detection in the game just felt finicky and inconsistent at times. Which does make stealth not a complete game breaking mechanic, but it still felt like a gamble sometimes if an enemy was going to turn around.

It's just to give players variety and it makes sense in the context of the game. STEM is linked to multiple people. But maybe you mean the transition of each new level.

RE4 melee overshadows the rest of the gameplay. It becomes very arcade-y and until mini bosses show up there's little tension because you can handle everything with most of your ammo intact because you waste maybe one or two shots per enemies you face. Stunning someone and being able to run up and do a overpowered melee attack would just make TEW's lack of ammo management pointless. Which is why RE4 drops tons of ammo because they understood that.

Well, that's if you take advantage of RE4's melee system and know how broken it is. My first run through the game was super tense since I didn't realize the TMP was basically an infinite melee machine.

But if that still doesn't work, then just generally make it a little less limp. Maybe keep the low damage level and have melee be used as a way to push back/stagger enemies. That way you have to still use ammo/the environment, but you can get out of tight spots sometimes with enough flailing. The first game was annoying since enemies would often just tank direct hits to the face. I'm just asking for a little improvement on melee, that's all. You don't have to make Sebastien do full on martial arts and suplexes.

There was an emphasis on Ghost Stealth only in the first segment of the game when you have to run away from the Sadist. As soon as you hit the forest, you're meant to be more wily. It's not as much getting spotted and then running 50m out to where they'll stop chasing you.

See, part of the thing I liked about the game is the traps, as while you can easily rip them apart for Agony Bolts, they're a great way to take out multiple enemies. With just the tripwire, if you have a bit of spatial awareness, you can clear out anyone running behind you by just quickly ducking underneath them. There's also the use of fire, to which you're given a lot of thing to set on fire during the village segment.

For the most part, you don't really lose that tension of combat through the rest of the game. You get more weapons, but you don't get to carry bucko amounts of ammo. The entire point is that the entire time, you're fighting, but you're meant to think on your feet and make quick judgments based on what weapons you have, what the environment is like, and where the enemies currently are. You're always running and always fighting. It's not stealth; you're meant to be using subversion.

I didnt finish first one as I lost my save files on almost last chapters, so after I saw trailer for second I started again from beginning.
So far only two things really bother me:
First is really clunky controls even for mikami action game. I dont know how many times I missed shot couple millimeters from ear with my revolver, and I played re4 with red9 as my main weapon of choice. Something in controls makes little precise movements really hard. I hope controls will be little more polished in next one.
And the second one I wish if there will be more action heavy parts like in last parts of TEW, they should do better job with item drop balance and make your pockets bigger for fuck sake, so I dont be looking for scraps like homeless beggar with 3 bullets in my pistol and 1 in my shotgun at next boss fight. I cant belive it same game from creator of RE4 and they fucked up that part. Something like burning corpse giving you 100% item drop would be really cool.
I think overall I liked the game, even steath parts and RE-tier cheesy plot, but this two things really take part of my enjoyment. Totaly will check dlc after I finish main plot and if I like it probably buy second part.

I'm trying to beat the game now. Last time I gave up at Chapter 11 during the cable car sequence. Now I'm on Chapter 13 past boxhead showing up again. I don't know if I'll be able to make it.

Is it just me or is this game not scary at all? There is some good horror stuff, mainly to do with the safe space and Seb's past but everything about Ruvik is laughable. I like the idea of STEM being a place where everyone contributes to the landscape but Ruvik having concious control ruins it. You don't really see anything of Joseph or Juli's past, or anything about Sebastian other than his diary because Ruvik is forcing you to see what he wants you to see. I feel like the game would be much better without that fag so I hope he doesn't come back in 2.

Ruvik is the best thing about the game. He is the core that's why the majority of the things in stem is thanks to him, plus he locked the machine with his brainwaves. They have to bring back Ruben since he was a plotpoint left in a cliffhanger.
