Just adds more depth to the gameplay. More interesting loot, more variety with encounters, more locations to explore with an entirely new way to traverse the overworld. If you understand the underground map well enough you can use it as a shortcut to reach other places above ground. The loot in AWOP can be more powerful to keep up with the enemies, but like unique items in the vanilla game you can only find the most powerful ones in specific locations. Overall it just breathes a little more gameplay into an already good game. Just watch out for mod incompatibilities to avoid instability. That can eat up a lot of time, but if you're familiar with making a custom patch for your mod order it can get as stable as F:NV can ever be.
