So was the one behind the DLCs and those were really well-received. Apparently they took notes from fan reception and how the DLCs got wider acclaim than the main game itself. TEW2 was already being developed at the time when they were making the Kidman DLCs, so I'd expect the new game to jump right off of the story threads from those.

Besides, they still have Mikami overseeing the pacing of the game so if anything, it's going to be a combination of the DLC-style story mixed with Mikami's expertise in game design, which is a really good sign for anyone who thought the story was an incoherent mess.

Also it seems like the game will be dealing with some of the threads left over in the first game by way of pseudo-side quests in STEM, e.g. the church/cult that Ruvik and Kidman's family lived under, and the many photos in that one room (you know the one) which are now apparently the work of a serial killer artist/photographer (which will introduce a new character with an assistant "camera" creature similar to The Shade from the DLCs). Mikami was brought on to supervise the pacing between the main story and the sidequests so they won't feel jarring as if you're just jumping between "main story then random quest" wherein it should feel more natural with how the story melds together.

A lot of the actual gunning/fighting in the DLCs had less ammo than usual to the point where every bullet counted, making some of the encounters harder than the ones in the main game. There's a reason why the stealth played a huge role at all.
