Not really. You eventually get judged based on your current progress, but it doesn't really matter since you can have your progress re-garner anytime.

Play it comfy. I don't know if wine is still as OP as it was on launch, but that shit was retarded. Also abuse sprinklers once you get rank 2 ones.

im like 12 hours in and all ive done is fish and plant trees. havent gone to any social events or anything, just caught 100s of fish and ive enjoyed the hell out of it.

You'll feel an ass going to events with no one to share it with, but the gift system is oretty shit and needs a guide to use.

Word to the wise is to make sure you fill the community centre as fast as you can. Game can drag incessantly if you forget.

Keep a crop and foraged item from each seas
Do the bundles, their rewards are well worth it and some of the items can only be gotten during certain seasons
