>game has a time limit of x days
>if you don't appear at a certain location at this time, you failed the game and can't play the other 60% of the game

Why would a game designer think that this is a good idea?
>>
I really liked how daggerfall did this: You got a letter from some duchess or something telling you to meet her on some day, if you didint go, shed keep annoying you until she stopped writing and you couldnt complete the main quest

Nothing wrong with this. Games have little feeling of consequence these days.
You walk around collecting your quest markers and go around returning your quests at whatever pace you please.
Nobody reads what they actually consented to, just fucking routine to make the exp bar to fill up.
Well fuck you, people asked you to save the village because it was being attacked and you were a nonshow, QUEST FAILED, have shit day.

I thought this was kinda cool in dead rising...

As long as missing out on the rest of the main plot makes sense, I'm all for it. Makes the world feel more alive and not just window dressing for you.
>>
>>380486112
You and your kind are the reason we have Dead Rising 4, get off my board.

>I absolutely must be able to 100% the entire game in a single playthrough

You killed Dead Rising as a series.
>>
>>380486112
And this mentality is what Ruin one of the few things that made Dead Rising unique.

STOP KILLING GAMES

Not him, but I think being able to complete the story in one form or another is important even if you screw up. This is where multiple endings are useful. Just saying "Fuck you, now you get endless sandbox with no objectives" is bad design.

>chase sequence
>characters warning you to hurry
>hug the walls pressing x so I don't miss anything
>you can actually go as slow as you want
>>
>>380490665
Having no consequences for your fuck ups removes the pressure that Dead Rising traditionally put on the player.
>>
>>380490665
alot of the timers were really generous.
And if you dont care about the story to ignore the objectives, then why do you care you are missing it?
>>
If you're talking about Dead Rising, you got the exact same of allowed gameplay time and just a different ending depending on where you failed the game, with the exception of the true ending which adds a whole day.
>>
>>380490941
I mean I felt the pressure, but I got almost every single side objective done in the game on first play-through, I literally missed out on one by fucking up. I beat it with a bunch of time left too. It was a lot of time, all it kept me from doing was dicking around.
>>
>>380489365
>leaving the console on during the night because i can't afford a memory card

You're softcore.
>>
>Get to the ending where you have to defeat the BBEG
>"Good" NPCs tell me to hurry to certain location, there is no time left or the world is doomed!
>Decide to do other shit in game, do random quests, do a lot of fishing, back track, do other shit besides main quest in case I missed anything.
>Get there
>Apparently everything was about to transpire at that particular moment in time. The BBEG was just about to unleash his plans, he didn't unleash evil into world.
>"Good Anon! You made it just in time!"

Good, x days and time frames/limits makes for better immersion faggot. You should be able to feel the pressure, it also adds added replayability.

Was actually talking about this (see timer in the top left under the clock), but Dead Rising works too.

>buy wind waker and gamecube memory card on ebay
>receive game first
>play it for 3 days and leave console on
>mother turns it off the day I receive the memory card because I didn't warn her
I haven't found the strength to go back to the game years later
>>
>>380489365
I paid for entertainment but my time is also important to me. If a game doesn't respect my time then it's a shit game to me. I don't have hundreds of hours to waste on one game.
>>
>>380486517
This is perfect.
If you ignore part of the game then no biggie. It's waiting for you.
Locking content away is anti-fun.
>>
>>380493338
But that's what anon described, if you don't respond after a time you get locked out of the quest.
>>
>>380493338
But that's exactly the opposite of what happens though and what he said.

If you ignore the first letter, you will get another one as a warning telling you that if you ignore her plea she will no longer contact you and will disappear and give you a time frame to meet her. If you ignore it again, you will not be able to participate in the main quest forever and you have to make a new character.
>>
>>380489365
I see it as a plus to be able to 100% the game in a single playthrough. 90% of the time I never replay games.
>>
>>380495372
If a game isn't worth replaying you're better off missing some content than wasting your time on it.
>>
>>380486112
>Majora's Mask
>Way of the Samurai
>Dead Rising

All unequivocally good games. Git gud OP, time is a resource just as much as EXP and HP are.
>>
>>380490665
>This is where multiple endings are useful.
I would agree with that at least
