Hello there /v/ Anon. Today I'd like to talk to you about an oddity in gaming. Something I have never once seen in any other MMO.

Pic related, its BDO and I'm sure you're already priming your pay2win complaints. This is not about that, instead its the auction house. You see, BDO has a controlled auction house. What that means if the game devs set the value of every single item. Say for example corn. No matter how much want or dont want Corn it will always have a minimum purchase value of X and a maximum purchase value of Y. No matter what happens in this game, corn will only ever sell for those values. And that is how the entire auction house functions. However, this is only part one of the problem

Part 2 is that the devs have made it IMPOSSIBLE to trade items between players. Say for example. You have a bunch of corn and you want to sell it for a better price or even better. Say you have a friend who wants to trade some of his iron ore for your corn? Absolutely not allowed. It is physically impossible to exchange items between players in any way shape or form AT. ALL. Even if both of you start a guild up, you simply cannot exchange items. The only way to do so is through the in game auction house system

Now lets go a little further with this. The auction system itself. You may think it is something as simple as going to the market and buying some corn? No. Not at all. You see, in BDO the sum of an items parts are worth more than the finished product. In some cases you will make 50% more money by just selling materials. This means the market is always empty of the materials you need and you have to sit there and wait for someone to up the items you want. Then bid on them. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE. """"Bid"""" doesn't actually mean anything. When you hit the bid button you are paying full price for the item and entering an RNG lottery with everyone else who bids. Whoever wins the lottery gets the item.

Now I know what you may be thinking "But Anon, surely the community of the game outrages about this". No, no they do not. Infact they defend the feature to their dying breath. They INSIST that having a controlled market keeps the prices on things fair and that- because players can't trade with one another. it keeps bots and Chinese gold sellers out of their game. Yet, they have no problem with buying in game cash from the Publishers.

Now here is the beautiful part. Because selling crafted goods on the market yields less profit than selling the mats to make them. there is never anything on the market you want to buy. Which means you have to buy the mats the go make the item yourself. This effectively renders in game currency useless as- what is the point of an auction house if not to acquire the goods you can't make for yourself?

I've never seen anything like this before /v/. It's like some crazy social experiment.

Fuck off and go back to playing your fetchquest simulator, no one gives a shit about the mmo ""genre""
>>
Sounds like the devs have a pretty weird system going on. I never really play the auction house in any MMO so I can't really say anything other than it sounds weird to me

Sounds like a pretty shitt game where basic features are disabled

get rekt faggot

>op nearly shit on the game

i'm out

I fucking hate asians. They are horrible at making video games.
>>
>>380477159
This is the only proper reaction. However I'm never seeing it with actual dogshit mmo's like FFXIV and WoW. BDO at least has some skill requirements.

>the game devs set the value of every single item
No they don't.

>No matter what happens in this game, corn will only ever sell for those values
That's not even remotely true.

The prices on things are all set dynamically by demand and the amount of silver in circulation.

Everything else you mentioned is entirely implemented to combat RMT which is a huge issues in B2P & F2P games ever more so than P2P games.

It's definitely annoying at times, but it's hardly something to be so disturbed by.

>>380481217
It frankly makes the game unplayable to have an on functioning auction house and no player trading.
>>
>>380481946
How? If I want something on the AH I just put a pre-order on the item or I set a notice and go to bid on it when I get said notice.

That's only if it's actually something that is in such high demand that it needs a notice. Most things you just go to the AH and buy it right away.
>>
>>380482142
Sept the part where items even going to the pre order phase is complete RNG and I don't know when the last time you played the game was but there is no player-gathered items that you can just go by straight away.

LOOOOOL
Yeah right nigger the only skill requirements is grinding long enough to get better gear and higher level than your opponent.

Even casual babby "MMOs" like FFXIV and WoW have a higher skill ceiling.
>>
>>380482376
I'm logged in right now. I still don't get what the issue is. Just make your pre-order and wait until you get the item. If you don't get the item, set the pre-order. If you don't want to use pre-order, set a notice.

It doesn't make the game "unplayable." That's absurd to think.
