What does 4K actually look like? I don't think I have ever experienced it, is it a noticeable difference from 1080p?

Honestly saw it for the first time at aWal-Martthe other day. There was some nature/wildlife demo showing and as someone who was pretty skeptical about all this shit it looks fucking incredible. You really have to see it for yourself, but basically colors are so much more vibrant and everything is so much more detailed and clear to the point where it looks almost unrealistic.
I bought a 65'' 1080p TV last February and now I'm legitimately bummed out I didn't go 4k.
Yes, it'a significant. It's not quite SD to 1080p but still a massive jump. You will clearly tell the difference.

Would it make an impact on vidya?

I haven't seen any games running in 4k, but with HDR on a nice screen I'm sure it would make a pretty meaningful impact. They're not nearly as expensive as they used to be either, so if you're in the market definitely get one.

Go to best buy or walmart and put your face inches in front of the 4k tvs. The resolution is so high it doesn't hurt to stare at it from inches away.
