You definitely want to play the series in order. The REDUX (translation: what if we had made the games about 15% better than we had) versions are nice but not essential in any way.

Any ways you should play Metro 2033 then LL.

Yeah pretty solid fps series with a really good setting. Get the two though because the first is worth playing.

Literally my only complaint with this series is loading screens, taking a more half life approach with contiguous levels and no narration would've raised the atmosphere even higher.

The generation of the console has nothing to do with narration in the loading screens.

It was simply a way to keep the game grounded along the plot of the book without having lots of heavy cutscene moments.
