>playing jrpg
>enjoying comfy fantasy setting
>suddenly get a spaceship and have to fight god
Why does this always happen? Are there any JRPGs that don't have incongruous scifi elements, preferably none at all?

My friend got me into playing FF XIV recently and they pulled this shit. I was just happily going along doing the story quest in the generic medieval fantasy setting when all of a sudden as soon as you get to the airship cutscene SUDDENLY SUPER EVIL SCI-FI BAD GUYS. Like no explanation for why they look futuristic or anything, shit looked like something out of the empire from star wars. Actually I think they're even called the empire.
I'll be honest I'm writing this from a position of ignorance since I know fuck all about final fantasy. Maybe it's canon and works with the lore but to me it just came off as retarded and poorly written.

actually, sudden appearance of Scifi-Elements are a trademark of the series since the beginning
but even that is nothing compared to the hillarity if the first two Ultima Games

Jap can't into writing, they think because the genre has the word "fantasy" in it they can just go fucking crazy and do whatever they want when ever

I assume old CRPGs is where they got this shit from. I know they were popular in Japan and the Japanese probably just assumed it was normal of western fantasy.
Nothing beats Wizardry 6 in this regard though. But at least there it was played for laughs.
