this is the trinity, insomniac needed to simply play through these games to realise this and then incorporate the best of each. Instead we get lip service about how theyre big spiderman fans yet have no memory of what made previous games great

You misunderstand OP. It isn't that Spider-Man 2 is a perfect masterpiece. It just hasn't been topped in terms of swinging mechanics. The fact that a fucking movie tie-in game has a better understanding of how Spider-Man should control and feel than any other game says a lot about how lazy/incompetent other developers are.
