Why are paid mods bad?
What are the arguments except "I don't want to pay"?
Shit mods, greed, community division
Go Google some writeups, it's been discussed to death.

It's called 'rent-seeking.'
Bethesda's trying to bring it back, but now they're offering 100% compatibility, which is a big plus in their favor. Simply asking money for other people's work is absurd, ownership laws be damned

Because many mods do not make it in quality, many cause severe issues that the modder could not handle in a civil suit.
We have issues with chuckle fucks trying to do kickstarters, imagine every fucking nigger trying to pass off their shitty mod for cash.

"I don't want to pay" should be good enough for you. "I don't want to pay" is what prevents shitty business practices.

Bethesda is getting money for work they didn't do.
>Well they made the engine / mod tools, right?
Well if craftsmen asked for a 75% cut on all products produced with their tools, they'd be bankrupt by now.

Huh, /biz/ was actually good for something besides shilling bitcoins.

"I don't want to pay" is a valid response when the question is "are you willing to buy it?"

It's not just about mods. It's about money. Take anything that has traditionally been free of charge and of course people will get foam-at-the-mouth pissed off when you put a price tag on it. People like free shit and hate spending money.

Can someone actually address this iteration of paid mods, though? Not the last one?
- Valve isn't involved.
- Bethesda seems to be directly contracting dedicated modders for the initiative.
- For those that aren't part of that arrangement, curation will (theoretically) lead to better quality control, less theft, and better compatibility.
- It is entirely elective on both the part of the modders and the consumers.
There's actual good arguments against it out there, I know. Let's hear them.
Because human greed. Did you learn nothing from paid mods on Steam?
>Mods used to be a passion project from superfans
>As soon as paid mods became a thing they showed their true colors and every little rat modder put their shit up for like $10+ bucks
>Tons of Skyrim mods that all depended on each other or were required for huge mods suddenly became paid and broke for people who already used them freely for months/years
>Shit like $100 realistic horse pussy was a thing
>Bethesda workshop or whatever has already shown shit like $5 crab armor
Also go fuck yourself, "I don't want to pay" is a good enough reason.
