Does the fact they have announced there will be a mainline pokemon game coming to the switch within the next 2 years BTFO people who said the switch isn't the 3ds's successor? Pokemon has been stated multiple times to be an exclusively handheld game series.

It's not like there's any other direction they can go. Doing a pure 3DS successor would just come off as a worse Switch. Having every game on one console is more appealing.

I'm sure someone could find the interviews for you, but I remember reading quite a few times with developers that being able to take your pokemon with you is an integral part of the series.
