Did you play Metroid Zero Mission? Sound to me like a similar "reimagining." If Samus Returns is comparable to Metroid 2 in the same way that MZM was to the original, it'll be great.

Well again, MZM was such a major expansion on the original that I think it's fair to call it a "new" game. It wasn't just a graphical upgrade, it had many new areas and abilities - the parts based on the original were something like half the game, if that. If Samus Returns is anything like that, it'll qualify as "new" to me anyway.
