How can other games even compete?

Evil Within has good gameplay and design though, and all the set piece stuff is mostly cool or used sparingly.

I expected nothing and got TEW 2 and, if it doesn't get hit with the modern Ubi hammer, BG&E2. That's a win in my eyes.

Do what i did with the first and play the game on hard without upgrading anything, i legit had a survival horror playthrough.

I'm hoping that the lack of letterboxing means that they have gotten used to idTech and the final release will run far better.

Why do I have this sinking feeling that this game will be better than the first, yet sell way worse?

TEW1 came out when there wasn't a lot of games for current gen yet and a lot of people already felt burned by the first game; going by the trailer it seems Bethesda put quite a bit of money behind this game. I'm a bit worried.
>>
So did they actually have gameplay for it?
>>
>>380271967
I really liked TEW, despite all of it's issues and those were plentiful. Still had to fix the FOV through cheat engine so I'd stop getting headaches, but the gameplay gotten pretty solid after you started upgrading weapons. It just takes a while to get there, and it's a slog when it's not "there."
>>
>>380277310
>this game will be better than the first, yet sell way worse?
The boxart for TEW looks like it belongs on a SAW movie poster.
The boxart for TEW2 is too beautiful and the first game was too complex for casuals.

Selling worse is guaranteed.
Just be glad we're getting it at all.
Mikami isn't directing this so if it fails to make its money back, his ego won't be hurt.

I really hope they don't commit to a cliffhanger ending and allow this to have a sense of finality in case they can't do a third game.

I don't think people give TEW1 enough credit for what it did have. Sure, the story either had glaring plot holes or was told too stupidly, and was essentially falling apart at the end, but it was a cool experience.
Felt scared at times by the enemies (especially the spider lady) and the environments were great. Loved the gunplay and boss fights. Characters were cool and served purpose. I feel like it had a lot there, a shame people couldn't appreciate what it did have.

the first game was good, only held back by technical issues to become great. If you seriously couldn't figure out the story or had problem with the controls you are either just plain stupid or a dirty casual who can't enjoy a story or gameplay if it requires a bit amount of thinking.

Yes. Castellanos was irrelevant to the plot of the first game and didn't have any compelling traits or personality.
>>
>>380280306
>Sure, the story either had glaring plot holes or was told too stupidly, and was essentially falling apart at the end
nah, the story was pretty logical and clever. Even if something wasn't explained it was strongly suggested.

The only "stupid" thing it did was expecting people to have enough dedication to put the intentionally clusterfuck story together. Literally everyone who shits on the game's story didn't even think it through or at least checked some explanation, the game's story is easily among the better ones in the horror game genre.
>>
>>380282681
You can see in the sequel that Sebastian is connected to the plot this time and is probably going to receive some much needed character development.
>>
>>380282323
Story was garbage
no, you were too retarded to put it together, it was WAY better than any resident evil's for example
>Controls were shit
it was literally RE4, the game was just harder, that's why I'm saying you and anyone who brings up this shitty complaint is just a casual turd
>Buy the dlc if you want answers from this shut story
the story was complete even without the dlc, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RZsY2GyWfM
They just made it clear for stupid people who couldn't put it together themselves.
>Mediocre bosses
that's actually right, the game had few good bosses
>Boring shit characters
they were only boring visually. If you actually read the documents/ listen to the records they were pretty interesting and complex characters
>>
>>380281560
>game practically plays itself half the time
>you're casual if you don't like this
lol
>>
>>380282875
I agree with you actually, I really loved this game. I understood the plot just fine too the only thing that I guess people would complain about with the story was Castellanos' kid and how it didn't really impact the story, and how the last level or whatever had you firing rockets at some giant monster (which I loved, but I'm guessing casuals were expecting it to strictly stick to horror?).
I really liked Castellanos as the protagonist too, don't know why some people dislike him. I'd rather a protagonist in a horror game who shows less fear than the player than the other way around, which would just seem cheap and annoying. People are being too hard on this game
>>
>>380271967

the story you dense mofo. It was a fucking interesting and unique story if you understand what it was about, the only stupid thing it did is trusting casuals to care enought to think about what the fuck was actually happening through the game and put it together with the documents and records found in the game.

/v/ can sometimes be overwhelmingly contrarian.
It's a surprisingly good game. Don't expect to be spoonfed plot. Solid gunplay and stealth. Enemies were creative and had cool imaginative designs. Boss fights ranged from mediocre to really really good.
Apparently the game is a little buggy (tho I never personally experienced this but idk how common it is). Has frustrating parts you may repeat a little too many times due to artificial difficulty (tho overall doable) but more often there were many tense and scary fights. Some people say the protagonist is boring which I kinda disagree on since I liked his macho personality, although I agree that his personal story should have been tied closer to the main story (but now we get TEW2 to cover this so its all g).
You can probably tell I'm biased but you should at least check out more people's reviews and give it a fair shot.
