It was pretty cool. Most of the active players all piled into Mor Dhona, enough that people were crashing. In the cities, giant Fuck Everything monsters were spawning and killing people, and out around Carteneau an endless stream of Garlean mobs started popping up. Basically, that battle shown in the cinematic was happening. And speaking of it, once the countdown was over and the game shut down, instead of booting everyone to the title screen it played that movie(which hadn't been seen by anyone yet). It's honestly pretty trippy the way they were able to build hype from the failure of their game.

There really wasn't any sugar coating it. It's also why the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 was amazing. It's impossible to explain how incredible it was to see something so low get pulled back up and turned around to become not only a great game, but one of the best things in the franchise. Eventually, XIV may turn into a F2P, cash shop run jewathon, but for a while, it was an beautiful thing.

To seriously answer your question, it isn't as bad as the initial previews made it look. They've since updated it so you have a much better chance of getting a lily from healing, I think Cure II has a 100% proc rate.

Still not great, and I think the meta will still be AST and SCH for 8 man stuff, but not nearly as awful as people were making it out to be.

This game is the real deal. Face it, most people will not have what it takes to play it. The purpose of this game is not to entertain, it was made entirely to scare of the dumbed down masses and cater only to the selected elite of online gaming. Real hardcore gamers (aka worthy human beings) don't require ingame rewards for them to keep on playing. Mounts? Such vanity is only implemented for lazy impatient people who cant face the test of endurance. Quests? a true passionate gamer does not demand such a luxury. 1 story mission each 5 levels is more than enough and it is disrespectful and demanding to ask for any more.
In general, it is always the customer who should adapt to fit a product, not the other way around. The paying customer has no right to voice their opinions on the product they are paying for.

THMs weren't exactly hard healers, but they explain the shift. Mumuepo was put in prison and the Coco brothers took over with their focus on the magics they use in funeral ceremonies. As for CNJs, they now just focus on the elements that the Shroud is more heavily aspected in because that's what Gridanians are more naturally attuned with. The lore for those establishments hasn't changed.
