Dark souls 3 is making my CPU run hot. Get's up to 80c after about an hour. Is this way too high and should I replace the stock cooler ? if so, is it pretty easy ?
Over 90 would be "way too high".
That being said, you should consider at least re-pasting the cooler, and cleaning your PCs innards of dust.

80c is a safe temp for intel.

Is DS3 really that CPU intensive? 1 and 2 barely make my CPU sweat a all.
My pc gets 80 when i try go watch a youtube video

It's dust free, cleaned it to try and lower the temp. Will probably at least go buy some thermal paste but it's not exactly hot here atm weather wise, so worried in summer it will get worse.

You can also try undervolting the CPU a bit. Check Youtube for tutorials.
>>380245221
>buy unlocked CPU marketed on its overclocking potential
>buy more expensive Z97 motherboard to put it in
>use the stock cooler
What did you mean by this?
>>380245858
No. It only heavily works a single thread, and even then it's only a few areas that are heavier on the CPU (Irithyll and the swamp in particular).
>>380246161
You could go read up on overclocking and try lowering the voltage and clocks a few hundred MHz
>>380245221
it's really cpu intensive on 1-2 cores
btw, anyone knows why skylake gets so hot?
I have an i7 2600 idling at 35c and maxing at 55c on a txt evo, my 6700k stock clock idles at 20c and spikes to 75c with a noctua ndh14.
I already reseated it, tests are on prime 95
>>380245221
if you're hitting 80c you did something wrong. either the heatsink is not secure enough or the tim on it is literally gone. do you actually have case fans going? do you know what airflow is?
>>380246430
I bought it as a package from a shop that was shutting down near me. Charged me next to nothing.

>btw, anyone knows why skylake gets so hot?
intel jewed out on the ihs tim like they always do and no ever says anything so they keep doing it.
>>380246716
shitty tim and higher clock speeds
>>380246802
All fans running, I took the heat sink off this morning to check if it was easy enough to do. Was running the same before and after I did that and pretty sure I set it back in place fine.
>>380247194
is it idle?
can you run prime 95 and see how much it goes to?
>>380247194
Did you replace the thermal paste after taking it off?
>>380247194
Can be caused by some Auto-Tuner setting in BIOS.
Return CPU to stock values for now if it isn't.
>>380247429
No that's with DS3 running. No other game has made it run this hot, only reason I knew was I heard the fans speed up which never usually happens. I'll run prime in 2 sec.
>>380247530
No I need to go buy some
