I have absolutely no problem with female soldiers being included in a video game set in a war. I work alongside female soldiers every day and for the most part they are about as competent as male soldiers (which isn't a high bar for the most part). I do have a problem with it when females are added to a game simply to pander to a specific modern day demographic that doesn't care as much about historical accuracy as they do about making sure women are portrayed as equal to men despite the fact that it wouldnt make sense in a number of ways.

First of all thats disrespectful to the female soldiers who did serve during WW2 and who maybe sacrificed their lives during it. Its also disrespectful to the audience that wants to play the game by emulating the roles that real female combat troops had such as combat pilots and what have you. All the soldiers of WW2 who survived had interesting stories to tell, but in particular many females who saw combat had really interesting stories to tell.

I think what im trying to say is the way video games tends to treat soldiers is pretty disrespectful in general and by just shoving in female combat arms soldiers to your video game solely to have females portrayed as equal to males in a video game is even more disrespectful to what is now an even wider group of people.

I can think of one russian woman for example who literally bought a tank from the government to go fight on the front lines to avenge her husband who died. She got to be her tank's driver and im pretty sure she was KIA when her tank got destroyed in combat.

Being rotated out of the front is just what happened to any unit that took high causalities because it was necessary. That's for single player bud, I'm sorry but the biggest war in mankind is kind of hard not to adapt into a game, any game for that matter, be it tabletop whatever. Soldiers currently serving play games based on real conflicts or even the war they are currently in and they love them, they know it's not meant to be taken too seriously yet others are getting upset on their behalf for some reason.
