Why are so many games about "heroic" anarchists or subverting defying or overthrowing "evil" civilization? History does not remember the Romans as villains and the Goths as heroes, because the collapse of the Roman Empire led to centuries of misery and chaos. I'm not singling out any game in particular but it seemed to be a major theme this year at E3. The "good guys" will be misfits who can't dress properly and are uncluttered and uncouth, while villains will always have uniforms and technology that actually looks functional and cared for rather than some rusty shit pulled out of a junkyard.
It's like they're trying to push the meme that technology, economy, public order, civic progress, and culture are bad, while crime, societal breakdown, cultural rot, and technological decay all admirable traits that should be put on a pedestal. It's kind of hypocritical in the gaming industry of all places, which is fueled by technology and capitalism.
