Why does PS4 Kratos look like a Viking, who has painted himself

Old Kratos for comparison. He looks like a Greek bust of a god warrior that has come to life.

Maybe its just me, but why is this even tied to God of War? couldnt this have been a brand new IP with a Norse theme? Kratos doesnt have the chains of Olympus anymore, hes not pissed off anymore, its not a fast paced over the top gruesome hack n slash anymore. It looks like a decent game but Kratos seems so out of place.

because unlike the previous games which were based on greek myth this one is based on norse myth. i don't even see how its a true sequel. looks more like a different universe story

If I remember correctly he "killed himself" and after the credits, his body wasn't on the mountain, there was a blood trail going off the side of it
