It's a bit of a culture shock when you first hear it, but it becomes a lot more suitable the more you get into the franchise from the perspective of someone actually interested in source material.

If you were to hypothetically tackle all of the Dragon Ball franchise in Japanese and also in chronological order (and I mean reading chapters and watching movies and reading up on/playing the games in the order they became publicly available), you wouldn't have the voice any other way. Someone who grew up purely on the FUNimation English dub of DBZ would think that Goku was meant to be a manly superhero figure who fights for justice would be completely bewildered by the Japanese version. These people don't actually like Dragon Ball, they like the specific rewrite done by FUNimation to Dragon Ball Z in their childhood and treat that as the shining standard that nothing else lives up to while still having the audacity to call that "Dragon Ball".

Imagine if Naruto and Naruto Shippuden were made in the late 70s/80s, and Boruto in the late 80s/mid 90s. Boruto gets dubbed into English in the mid/late 90s without doing either previous series, goes through all the poor 90s English dub practices, and makes Naruto's voice actor a guy. People who would hear his Japanese voice for the first time 15-20 years later would be completely shocked and would hate it. "Why is Naruto voiced by a woman? In 2d animation there are proportions movement and the like that isn't perfect. A 3d model animation made my a computer is perfect.
