I didn't ruin the game for anyone but her. Everyone else was tired of it, too. You literally couldn't even haggle with a shop keeper for travel rations without her trying to find some sort of oppressor to overthrow, asking shit like, "Are there any gay people around? Just for fun as I imagine you won't read this anyway, I'll assume you are being serious because trolling is pointless with all the people here, and everyone takes themselves too seriously anyway. You have three options:

1) play older games. There are thousands of games to play - just because something is from a few years ago does not make it bad - it will still be "new" to you. Pick a genre that you enjoy and have fun for the rest of your life. As you get older, less and less time gets devoted to games due to life obligations. Also, time accelerates as you get older. You will understand that yourself.

2) Do something else. Live a little. Teach yourself something else that you always wanted to do. Find a new hobby. The older I get the more I am convinced that happiness is new experiences - go try something new. The more you do something, even if you currently enjoy it, you will eventually begin to dislike it. You have nothing to lose - you are miserable right now anyway.

3) Deal with it. No one will "save" you. It will only get worse, as you describe it. Or you can cut out the noise from the internet and pointless hype - it is a waste of time and leads to disappointment, in your case.

That sucks. The group of people I play with are just always looking to have a good time, not create a god or explicitly break the game. Again, the soap thing wouldn't be strictly allowable, but the way the DM rolled with it didn't break the game, because even if you aren't trained to swing a 10lb block of soap at the end of a 30 foot rope, an untrained person could still do it in theory, even if it didn't work particularly well.

Another example was when I was a rogue, and knew I wouldn't be able to unlock a trapped door, so instead I just knocked on the door. DM did the logical thing, and had someone open it to see who it was, at which point, I stabbed him in the neck.

Its entirely possible to think outside of the box without outright breaking the rules.

The vidya industry is basically doing the same shit that Marvel has spent the last several years doing, and if that's anything to go by, their sales will tank, and these companies will be forced to come crawling back to their core demographic with their tail between their legs.

I'm cool with some linear games. I dig open world, but now fucking everything is open world, and only the very best of them are worth the time an open world requires.

Open world is great, if it's done very very very well. A few focused cinematic stories would be very welcome atm.

Games are non-difficult, AAA games WANT you to finish the game, and see all the money they spent, no matter how useless you are.

There are still games that require skill planning, and understanding the world you are in.

Most AAA devs pretty much make interactive novels, they just want to shove a forced story into your face with sprinkles of gameplay.
