Good times.
>>
I own a psvr, looking forward to the new summer lesson than all those games combined. Really wished the vr section was a lot shorter
>>
>>380210421
is the psvr worth it? They don't have a bundle for the camera and move controllers so piecemealing that is expensive as fuck. $550 would buy a nice video card so i could play pc trash
>>
>Check out the Fallout 4 VR steam page.
>VR support: Vive
>No mention of Oculus

That seems pretty odd.
>>
Are those PSVR games they showed in Sony...exclusive only to PSVR? I mean Arkham is on PSVR but on Steam as well.

Gonna be pissed if I can't play Moss, though I know FFXV: Pro Bass Simulator is never coming to PC.
>>
>>380210848
Honest answer: no
But it really depends what you're into. For general good VR games you have Statik, farpoint, and now Superhot coming. But a lot of the catalog are merely "experiences" than games.
However if you got it for weebshit you have Summer Lesson, im@s and miku (which both suck btw) DOAX3 (which is pretty hot if you're willing to grind) and now Neptunia and Senran are coming, but is that really worth $500?
>>
>>380211370
I only really care about Rush of blood since i like rail light gun shooters, and moss, but who knows when that will come out.
>>
>>380210053

>>
>>380211767
Vive. You can move around up to 15ft so you can pretend to fuck your waifus all over your room. It's more expensive though

I'm sure there's a trackpad movement option? most games now seem to let you pick unless it's super low budget like 5-10 dollar game.

Or raw data for some bizarre fucking reason doesn't have the option
>>

They aren't patches, Bethesda is squeezing the goyim dry.

Not odd at all. Zenimax owns Bethesda. Zenimax was/is in a long ass legal battle with Oculus and sued the fuck out of them.

>>380211767
Oculus for comfort. The ergonomics of the headset around your face as well as the built in headphones make wanking and playing actual games a superbly enjoyable experience.

You can do roomscale near if not exactly identical to how the Vive does it but it requires a little bit more work in setting up in terms of cable management and hoping you have enough USB ports for it. I hope Oculus eventually releases a wireless camera that I can use as my 3rd.

Also Oculus Touch is hands down the BEST VR controller out there currently.

I hope that all the headsets succeed as we'll need competition in order to keep the market going and that not one company is in control of it and could pull the plug at any time if they wanted to.

Unless they use a headset lock like google earth did which can be easily circumvented you can enjoy all Vive "exclusives" on the Rift and vice versa for the Rift "exclusives". The only caveat is that you need to buy the titles from Oculus Home but that it.

Vive shills don't like that because it forces them to leave the walled garden of steam.
>>
>>380210848

I have one. It's really something special... for about a week and you get over the initial awe of it.

What follow is playing every "game" that's out there, and you'll have fun. There's definitely some great little experiences and puzzle games with a few hours of fun in there.

But even when you do get to bite into something bigger and better, a real game game, it's kind of a chore to get into. You tend to only be able to play for an hour or so because you'll get eye strain, you have to put on head gear anytime you want to get into it.

It's interesting, I'm glad I have it, but honestly it's not worth the price of admission.
>>
>>380211276
the ones developed by supermassive games are exclusive to PSVR.
the rest will most likely be on other platforms.
>>
>>380210053
Did they make any indication that Skyrim was PSVR exclusive or will it also be on real VR HMDs? Did they explicitly say it?
>>

Sadly SteamVR isn't that great if the devs don't plan for Touch controllers. Buttons are either all over the place, not there or worse cases like in Vermintide, the hands are reversed or just don't work.

If they want to stop people using oculus, I think they can.

I didn't want to see that much either but it's good they did. The way I see it VR games need big publishers to push this thing for it to take off, and the only two with any need to do that are Sony and Valve.

It needs more support and that's only going to come if people move more units on the shitty games available.

content producer Where are the Valve funded Vive games?.

Also Valve has a track record of pulling the plug on things on a whim especially things that they themselves aren't producing.

Remember the Steam boxes?

>>380216569
Stop calling them exclusives. They are giving devs literal millions of dollars and only ask for them to release the game on their storefront first after which they're free to do whatever they want. Unlike Valve they don't take a cut out of your profit until you pay them back you are entitled to whatever profit you earn.

You can STILL play the games with a Vive but you need to use their storefront as opposed to the other walled garden that is Steam.

Learn to read before being smug cunt.

Also I'm aware of Vive X however that requires you to work in specified offices by Valve for the duration of the dev time. Its not the same as giving away free money. Finally have you heard of any devs talking about how the pot has benefited them?

>>380217441
The only shady thing is the data telemetry, however it's understandable as they want to gather as much data as possible for a literal new technology and this is the fastest non-biased way to do so. Everything else is standard END USER licensing stuff which doesn't pertain to the contracts in which devs are given money by oculus.

Also unless you everything you own runs GNU AND you somehow have a magical AMD/Intel/Qualcomm CPU that doesn't have management engine Protip: You don't and will never not have it you're being tracked regardless. Stop using fear mongering as an argument tactic and use logic and facts.

>>380219353
There are a multitude of different locomotion methods out there that lots of games use. Teleportation is certainly the most popular one, but if you think you're a bad enough dude to jump right in with artificial locomotion then I've got a few options for ya:
There's standard analog movement, of course,
there's arm-swinger
there's jog-in-place
there are a few games like To The Top where you essentially throw yourself to get around.
Then there's straight-up flying shown in the webm.

There's also a method that I'm developing called "Offset-Lean" motion. It works by you setting a point by holding down the grip button. Then, the further you lean/move from the point you set, the faster you'll move in that direction. It can also be used for 360 flight by crouching down low, setting the point and then standing up to take off into the air like Superman.

I've pretty much got the kinks out, but now I have to figure out what I'm gonna DO with this new movement system!

Clearly someone hasn't been in the loop. See you in VRChat tomorrow, buddy. I'll show you what true VR shitposting is like.

Motion Sickness is real, alright. It's a sensation that comes from your vestibular system when it detects a desync between what you see and what you feel. It throws you off a bit and, if you're looking at the ground while moving, something lags, or your avatar falls unexpectedly you can sometimes get a little woozy.
It really depends on what you're playing, how its locomotion system works and how you, personally handle it. It sounds to me like you've got a pretty tough tummy, Anon, if you can jump right into a racing game with no problems.

If you're worried about potential sickness, though, here is my advice:

Begin with VR experiences that don't have you move at all, or use teleportation.
Next, move onto games that use simple methods like analog movement, or dash movement.
Finally, start working your way up to high-impact games that use all sorts of motion. It's all about practice and testing your own limits. It's a big VR world out there. Work with what sits well with you and you'll get used to being in VR in no time.

>>380222312
Maybe so, but it's something. At least it's something new rather than a port of an existing game with VR tacked onto it.

Depends. Does it have to be a "game" game with a story, progression the whole deal? If you're down for a social experience with some games thrown in I think VRChat would be a good fit for you. It's a fun social app that's all built using community-created maps in Unity, so if you want to get into making some VR stuff but don't know where to start, This is a good game for you to make some small VR experiences of your own and you already have a bunch of random people to test it for you.

My Kokiri Forest map was fun to make and folks really took a liking to it.

Nah, they learned their lesson with Lucky's Tale. You have to enter a serial or something from your Touch controllers. I think it is the highest budget VR only title there is. There's still ways to pirate it though.

I do not, actually. Pitch it to me. What else can I do with it? Is it a SteamVR addon? If I can watch videos, how's the framerate?
>>
>>380229590
Apparently it's on steam now as OVRdrop. It started out being somewhat lacklustre, but with hardware accel it can now do 1440p and 60f. So it works great. You can position the window anywhere in the playspace, or attach it to your headset or vive controllers. It's not really an addon, more an injector. It's pretty versatile and fun to set up.
>>
As a VR idort, I'm disappointed by E3. I thought at least Sony would have some great exclusives, and instead we got 2D platformers and a fishing game. I'm not convinced that Skyrim/Fallout will play well in VR, but I guess it's what people want.

I've not tried the steamvr app version, but I know steamvr doesn't like to play nice with running two steamvr apps at once. However, the app would have almost no purpose if it wouldn't work like that. maybe the forums have the answer.

With addons like ReVive, it really comes down to preference. If you already have Steam, use it often, have an active presence on Steam, Get a Vive. If you don't care about all that and don't mind Oculus shoving its own store in your face, Oculus will do you just fine.

>>380232270
It's the latter, I'm afraid. LeapMotion is only supported by a handful of apps. Not really worth it in my opinion. Wait for an official addon to come around.

>>380232541
>>380232617

VRChat. It's one of the better VR social apps since anyone with even a cursory knowledge of Unity can make a bunch of crazy bullshit and share it with people. It's free, has a ton of support and tutorials on their Slack channel and it's run by some genuinely fun folks.

Here's another look at the Kokiri Forest map I ported in, just so you can see what sorts of things you can do with it. You can also make interactive objects and custom pickup-ables. For example, you can actually crawl through the tunnel and get the Kokiri Sword to whack people with.

There aren't a lot, but there are a few fun actual games you can play in VRChat as well such as a Tron disk game and a few CTF shooters.

One of the biggest draws is the avatar system: Any rigged model, be they custom, or ripped from a game can be ported into VRChat using Unity. I have
Miku
Waluigi
Naruto
Sonic
A Team Skull Grunt
Vert from Neptunia
and some others that I'm probably forgetting.

The sense of scale is also maintained, as you can set the height of their eyes to whatever you like, so you can actually see the world through your character's perspective.
>>
>>380232617
>Never used VRChat at all, but I'm a little interested. Sell me on it?

Kind of Second Life like. You can upload any rigged 3D model for your avatar.
>>
>>380233246

No programming necessary. The only tricky part is making sure you've got the right stuff downloaded. If you've ever installed mods to a game, it's about that level of difficulty.

Once you've got an account in both VRChat and their Slack server they have an entire section dedicated to making avatars. Once you get the workflow going, you'll be churning out avatars like wildfire. And, yes. You can be the little girl. Or big girl. Or thicc girl. Whatever you want.
You rig it, you be it.
>>
>buy VR for horror games
>get severe panic attack and hospitalized

sucks
>>
More on VRChat:
There are tons of events such as the VR Talkshow Gunters' Universe.
There are Sunday meetups
In-game tutorial sessions
Other shit that the mods throw together to keep things fresh.

Finally:
It has a NON-VR Mode. So even if you don't have VR, you can still jump in and enjoy the fun. You just won't be able to play the games as well as we can.

>>380234448
You certainly wouldn't be the first one I've seen on there. No worries.

Nope! See, Unity has its own special avatar system that VRChat works with. All you, as an avatar designer have to do is make sure that Unity's Avatar engine knows which bone is which as it applies to your rig. Then as long as your rig fits the mold which, as long as it's bipedal, won't be much of an issue.

After that, VRChat just applies its own animations to your rig. Done. There are even subtle changes to animations depending on if your character is a boy, or a girl, such as changing how they sit.

They also do some rather clever blending between your actual hand motions and the baked animations so you can walk and gesticulate at the same time.
>>
>>380234971
Not the person you were talking to but...
there is no need to animate everything. 3D models have bones that interpret certain animations no matter what. Look at Garrys mod where you can upload 3D models and play Trouble in Terrorist Town or something.
The 3D model needs to have proper bones though. Regular japanese MMD (Miku Miku Dance) models usually have some weird placements due to the limitations of their software.
>>
>>380235463
There are actually Unity plugins that make it so you can import MMD models into Unity.

The problem is that MMD model makers don't give a flying fuck about vertex count. One limitation of VRChat's avatar system is they have a vertex limit. They do this so players don't import some crazy hi-poly model and crash everyone in the room.

Being in that mech for just a few minutes made me feel sick, give me a headache and made me feel extremely hot.
>>
>>380237015
Well, look at it this way: unlike irl, if you feel awkward during a conversation you can literally just vanish and fuck off to a different world for awhile and cool off. Doesn't matter if it's voice chat, or text chat. Or you can simply just mute your own mic and wave at people. Happens all the time.

Valve totally did make the Vive. It is their design, with input from HTC in adapting it to HTCs mass production facilities. SteamVR tracking which powers it is 100% their creation and property and in the very near future will begin to be entirely manufactured by them as well (all detector ICs and base stations).

The entire Valve/HTC relationship was purely an emergency expediency for Valve to meet Facebooks rush to market (with them destroying the entire market with a bad first impression a greater risk than gaining some incontestable advantage). Without the Facebook acquisition pushing them Valve probably wouldn't have revealed anything for another year or more, and would have been manufacturing everything themselves right from the start.

There is a very good chance that there'll be a break between the two before Vive 2.0.

This is more or less dead on arrival if it comes out in the next 5 years simply because there is not a single graphics card not even in sli that can push 4k 90fps in vr. Course you can get some low level minigame shit but dont expect the next elders scrolls or even something like resi7. Its not gonna happen for another decade the hardware necessary does not exist right now no matter how much money you throw at it.

There are like a dozen different prospective wireless VR solutions in progress right now. Most are just high-frequency wifi (eg. 60ghz vs normal 5ghz), very well known and proven tech that has simply never had a real use case until exactly this (it's problem being that it doesn't penetrate anything at all - irrelevant for room-scale VR). There are also a few novel approaches including laser and lifi. Valve is adding data transmission to the lighthouse lasers in the new version, but only using it for base station emitter identification (unlikely to change in the future, though, as the whole point of the base stations is that they doesn't need to know anything about the tracked objects they're servicing).

Hopefully this trend continues, and the future is one of modular HMDs. Following the PC model rather than the mobile phone one. For example, and where we are now, Chinese HMDs (with decent display/optics but no positional tracking) plus SteamVR Trackers. But hopefully better in the future because everyone's on the same page (adding specific known connection points so software can link tracking:screen automatically, no one bothering to make all-in-ones anymore and instead focus on doing the components well, etc.).

As in a new version you have to buy or just updates to the current lighthouses? I've already wirelessly updated them like twice. Not looking forward to shelling 800$ + again for Vive 2

If i go with my experiences from the steampad and the fact that they already can transmit/receive data via bluetooth they probably will update them.

And since lighthouses are available to third parties you probably can change parts of your VR kit with third party alternatives in the future.
Preventing you from buying a whole new kit and giving overall competition on the same standard.

The only problem would be if they immediately stopped production of the old version and run out of reserve stock, and then one of your existing base stations fails. Basically they'd have to be stupid and you very unlucky for it to be any issue any time in the next several years.

Even then you could presumably just slap a new-version Tracker puck on the HMD to get compatibility with the new base stations, which will hopefully be incomparably less expensive (the whole point of all these changes). It's been clear from the start their goal is for base stations to eventually become borderline disposable, and these changes are HUGE leaps in that direction.

It's going to be exquisite tragedy if the current inside-out optical tracking craze (eg. all the M$ partner HMDs, Oculus and HTC 'standalone' HMDs) actually works like they're claiming. Lighthouse may end up remembered as the flash in the pan that served solely to buoy confidence for 18 months before being completely BTFO by the real solution.

It's pretty neat, with the light weight and screens but it isn't the future of vr
