I don't understand the shitslinging. I love Ninja Gaiden, but God of War was a good series. Here's the actual reason.

If you zoom the camera far out, you dont see as much of the player's model at a time, meaning less pixels are the main character so he looks less detailed regardless of actual model detail.

The trend of modern games bringing the camera really far in is to show off their graphics so normies eat that shit up. In truth the difference between this gen and last gen are actually pretty small, so if the camera was zoomed out people would think it looks a lot like a last-gen game. Not great for selling consoles to people who only play Fifa and CoD.

Because the camera's zoomed in to show of the graphics, gameplay needs to change to accomidate the drawback of not being able to see as much of what's around you, which has resulted in the more grounded gameplay.

So basically its all just a byproduct of graphics > gameplay and everyone wanting to get the critical acclaim last of us got.

Except GoW is far more conducive to actual dodging thanks to superior camera and dodge controls, but it doesn't make every encounter feel anywhere near as repetitive as Ninja Gaiden.
