I'm planning on picking up Revelator on PC. I'm not sure if I'll get super into fighting games, as I haven't in the past,so I'll hold off on picking up Rev2, but I really like the aesthetic of Guilty Gear, and it looks really fun. Is there anything I should know before going in? Is the community dead, or can I play with people who have Rev2 even if I only have Rev? Planning on maining Sol.

No you can play with rev2 people
Don't pick a character until you went through all the special moves for all of them(doesn't take long), they all have widely different playstyles and chance is something will click more than Sol

I'm sure something will appeal to you if all you want is to go fast and throw someone into infinite mixups. Guilty gear has a ridiculous amount of character variety in terms of playstyle, some characters don't even feel like they are from fighting games.
Keep in mind though, it's also one of the hardest fighting games to enter, chance is you'll be getting curbstomped in the multiplayer for a while if you enter it fresh
