So why do people even enjoy BG&E1? I played through it on Gamecube, it's the epitome of French game development: pretty designs mixed with mediocre graphics and barebones gameplay. The world is boring, the combat is a slog, the story is barely above Saturday Morning Cartoon level, the characters are largely generic ripoffs of more popular series, and the music could be non-existant for all the good it does.

So why were people so hyped for a sequel, and why are they so upset that the new one has better visual designs and a fucking gorgeous new world to play in?

Every generation has a handful of good games that everyone knows are good games but nobody ever plays. BG&E was one of those games.
