direct is exactly what it says, direct marketing to consumers. nobody watches that shit except the fanbase
E3 is where you have all the retailers and press in one place and are able to reach people who aren't in your fanbase

Nintendo is there with a 30 minute segment. Literally just a formality. Their marketing department can contact retailers and consumers directly nowadays.

Nintendo is a Japanese company. They usually don't care about e3 instead opting for random announcements or TGS.

Sony is usually similar, not really anything special for Nintendo to suck
