The last of us is a great game. You could argue it has generic gameplay and simple mechanics or whatever - but this generic gameplay and simple mechanics are implemented very well and are fun as fuck. The story is very predictable, yes, but the set pieces are beautiful and the production value is fantastic, not to mention the surprising quality of visuals for such a weak system (ps3). The consistency of these qualities allows great immersion and thus, attachment to characters - even if you merely want to fuck Ellie's face, it's just a sign of attachment. In the end you have to play the game yourself to appreciate it - watching the cutscenes on youtube doesn't do it justice.
