>Go back to 90s younger you
>Try to explain that in 2017, over twenty years later, Doom and Wolfenstein are still the best FPS games on the market and arguably the only good ones
>try to hide your pain inside
Just stick to the mods made for those games.
Also, Wolf 3D aged badly.

>Wolf 3D aged badly
Idk mechanically it was still NuWolf but I had fun in the Nightmare levels of The New Order. I could still dig some W3D.
I don't see a problem with that.
>not quack
>not tribes
>not unreal tournament
get fucked commie
90s younger me would play the casualest CoD shit possible and it'd blow his tiny mind.
Do you have any idea how far videogames have come? You couldn't even aim up and down in Doom.
>Not showing your younger self some of the cool Doom wads made over the years.
>>380011693
The sad truth is that a lot of people here couldn't do that, because they were either too young, or not alive.
>>380011693
Nazis and demons are fun to shoot, what can I say. Robots can be fun to shoot too.
>>380011693
In't that ultimately a good thing? That an IP has re-caught the imagination of the original developments so that new players/generations may have similar experiences in these worlds?
I mean sure, the more (actually good FPSs) the merrier, but I won't associate pain when it comes to return of Doom and Wolfenstein.
>>380011693
>"what about Duke Nukem?"
>mfw
>>380011842
Yeah. There is nothing W3D has that DOOM 1&2 doesn't do better. It's still fun, but it doesn't hold up nearly as well as the other games.
>>380013278
It's not so much pain that Doom and Wolfenstein returned as it is that the genre is so barren and dejected that it's been reduced to the pioneers, reinvented for a new market, being the only good things left.
>>380012903
>You couldn't even aim up and down in Doom.
it's funny how nuDuum fags always use THAT as the main excuse why DooM would now be "bad".
Nu-Doom is trash and nu-Wolfenstein isn't much better.
>>380012903
>mfw I can only play Doom with PS1 Doom-style controls or modern mkb controls in a source portcrosshair included
>>380013976
I wouldn't call it trash, it pales in comparison to the original 2 games, but for a game like that to come out in modern day and have it be that solid is a shocker.
Kinda shit that a game that's just "okay" is something really noteworthy but that's just the shitty industry today.
>>380011693
Better question. Who wins. BJ or Doomguy.
Now I know what you're thinking. Gut instinct says Doomguy free. But in his last game BJ survived a grenade in his face and now he's coming back from being nuked. Plus he has super jew technology that gives him invincible cybernetic power armor.
>>380013875
Pathetic kneejerk response, I never said Doom is bad at all.
The point is that videogames have come a long way.
>>380013278
The issue imo is that even though nuDOOM and nuWolf are great games, they still have nothing on Crysis 1, FEAR 1, Call of Pripyat. It says more about great franchises that are dead or walking corpses than it does about those two old franchises that still holds up.
>>380011693
It will hurt more having to explain what will happen to rpgs and stealth games.
>>380014168
They win when they realize they share the same bloodline and agree to go fuck up nazis, demons, and demon nazis.
>>380013842
Oh yes, completely agree, But I am so used to barren and dejectedness in a great number of aspects of my life, I have long grown accustomed to it and consider it the baseline.
Therein lies the actual tragedy.
The OP construed the negativity with the present titles which I would hope to avoid.
>hey i also like duke nukem, GTA, command&conquer and simcity, what about them?
>>380014178
>The point is that videogames have come a long way.
Obviously, but we've also adapted some horrible trends in the past 10 years alone. No major breakthroughs have happened in gaming tech since mid-00s.
>Hey future anon, fighting games will get better and Mortal Kombat will make digitized actors the norm right?
>>380014193
>nuDOOM and nuWolf are great games, they still have nothing on Crysis 1, FEAR 1,
Wow, nice opinions, champ. Also STALKER is basically an entirely different genre, it's not a pure-FPS like D44m and Wolfenstein.
>>380014804
>Have to decide whether to break the news to lil anon that anime fighters took over as the only good ones in the genre
>>380014973
>Also debating whether to tell him how shit social life is going to be once he gets out of primary school.
>>380014178
>The point is that graphics have come a long way.
Games are worse gameplay and feature wise all around or stagnated if you are lucky.
>>380016082
>Games are worse gameplay and feature wise all around or stagnated if you are lucky.
Do people honestly believe this schlock?
>>380014925
>it's not a pure-FPS like D44m and Wolfenstein.
obligatory stealth sections, RPG menu surfing and literal fucking cinematics everywhere now count as "pure FPS"?
I was born in the 90's My first FPS was Turok
>>380016439
It's hard to not believe in hard, solid facts.
It's always mindblowing to go back to play some late 90s / early 00s classics and realize how much depth and replay value they got out of the box, usually with zero handholding.
Are there any m4ds out that you'd consider essential?
