Oh boy, entitled gamers are back again in full force.

>I'll pirate the mods
>It's been free out of the goodness out of the modders hearts
>They'll ruin the community
>25% cut is unacceptable. how can the modders live off that shitty deal?
>No quality content comes out of paid mods
>How can I be sure the game will run if there is no Quality Assurance?

how about instead of letting fans make their games better and then forcing other fans to pay for those fixes, they just gave them actual jobs so they can make their shitty games playable.

As someone who has been modding since 2002 (Temple of Elemental Evil, Arcanum, Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, Goldbox/FRUA, Thief, Gothic 1/2), I do not want to get any $$$ from this. I love those games, I create content for others to enjoy. Getting paid for anything instantly changes your perception of the activity irreversibly.

OP is a faggot.

At first I was a bit skeptical about the whole Creation Club announcement but when I read through their official website, it seems like this is a way for them to try and improve mods and make them better.

They will have quality control, collaboration between the game devs and the mod authors and a bunch of other procedures and guidelines.

I can't wait for the exciting new mods that will come out from this system. Its gonna bring polish and better integration for mods as a whole.

I am really excited.
>>
>not downloading all the currently free mods so that you can upload them to Bethesda and make hella cash from other peoples work because none of this will be properly curated
>>
>>380004219
Do you have a single argument why monetizing it would be a good thing? Have you ever heard of the term "do not fix what is working" especially since mod communities took years if not decades to become establish, with community norms that developed organically as it evolved. You think you can just waltz in there with your fucking ideas and "MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER FOR EVERYONE"? How about you fuck off and take your corporate interests with you?
>>
>>380005583

It's a kind of ironic bat humor where people pretend to be obvious marketers to discredit actual marketers when they attempt to shill. It proved to be effective in the past, but today people that browse /v/ are too fucking stupid to tell the difference, so they think it's for real and buy into actual shilling. That's due to the average level of intelligence of this board dropping lately.

There's no point in dancing around innuendo here, this is obviously about Bethesda trying to make paid mods for Skyrim.

If I'm honest, if there's something on those mods that are far superior to the "free mods" out there, (which have had years of development behind them) I'm happy to pay cash to play them.

But..

I highly doubt that Bethesda will have anything superior to the mods out there already, I don't see this being marketable.

There might be a bunch of Bethesda fanboys who'll drop some cash on the mods, but really I just don't see this knocking skyrim (a 4 year old game) back up in the charts.
>>
>>380005659
Don't forget, what we saw in the video was the mods being purchasable for bethesda bux. Credit which will have to be bought from Bethesda first, which means all in all, they're being dishonest conniving fucks who were in it just to reap a profit.

Paid mods isn't even a bad idea if it's a patreon, donation or paypal thing directly to the mod creators. I think that's great. This whole '''creation club''' thing is Bethesda being the sneakiest fucking scum they can be by trying to skim off money from what the modders do hard work to earn.

>>380005878
I don't care if it's bait or real marketing, pure hostility towards any perceived shilling is part of what makes this place great.
>>
>>380005384
How about this then
>make the games playable and stable in the first place making half of all mods pointless in the first place
>>
>>380005960
If every mod was like a full on expansion pack with new voice acting, models, etc. then it would be a good deal, although it will likely be the same shit we already get except now we have to pay for it.
Plus nothing that violates copyright will be allowed, so no anime mods.
>>
>>380004219
>shit studio
>quality controlling shit ever

>>
>>380005002
>I do it for free

meanwhile everyone else is jumping the patreon bandwaggon or twitch donation whoring.

I don't know whats more cancerous. timed donation incentives or purchases on mods.
>>
>>380005960
It doesn't matter anyways because this shit is targeting console users who can't use basic tools like script extenders or fnis. All you're going to get out of this are models and skin packs.
>>

The fucking mental gymnastics involved in this shitshow are downright amazing.

>Is Creation Club paid mods?
>No.
>How do I get Creation Club content?
>Credits are available for purchase on PSN, Xbox Live, and Steam

>Is it paid mods
>No
>how do I get them
>With credits that need to be paid for

There is absolutely no reason modders need a third fucking party to line their productions through. A good modder can set up a patreon and receive compensation directly for his work from his fandom and if he fucks up, he will be lynched by the community. They are the quality control and they don't need no Fraud Howard to do it for them. This is nothing more than a cheap attempt to take advantage of a "potentially unexplored market" by their local fucking thinktanks. And I think hostility towards shilling is a double edged sword, it's used by people to kill discussions of games they don't like, community control is no longer possible, but we don't have active moderation either because advertisement here is no longer actually illegal.
>>
>>380006465
I genuinely didn't even consider console *cough* peasants *cough*, I mean.. players.
>>
>>380004219
Paid mods are bad though and here's why.

1) Shit becomes a cash grab. People will stop making cool niche things and keep attempting to copy the latest crazy. Think Minecraft, flappybird, crush the castle, etc.

2) People will stop creating copy written material in their content. Want to see Jedi in a Bethesda game? Not any fucling more. Want to see lord of the rings in elderscrolls? Tough nuggies.

3) Passion projects are a thing of the past. Why spend years on something that could make the same as something you do in a week?
>>
>>380006232
I get that Lawyers are going to screw over a lot of those mods now, but my point is that the game is 4 years old and basically everything that could have been explored HAS been in the past 4 years.

This could well be the end of a beautiful era of mods in Skyrim, but it's been a good 4 years..
>>
>>380007085
paid mods is not going to stop people doing shit for free even passion projects
>>
>>380007085
Don't forget collaborations between modders becoming impossible, usage of modders resources and texture packs in other projects to further improve them becoming impossible, the need to license and cross license, credit and approve countless dependencies, conflicts and co-dependencies, modders making mods and slight alterations for popular mods to suit the needs of a specific niche player demand, all of it would become a fucking nightmare to manage. But nobody fucking cares.
>>
>>380004219
Like they always have. By modding as a passion because they love the game instead of modding to get money in their pocket.
>>
>>380007273
>oh well it can't be helped, all things must end

No, this isn't how it should fucking happen and defeatist attitudes like this is a part of the problem. With enough negative feedback they will fuck off. They backed off once already. The suits care only about projected profits, if they see that it will become a net loss, the idea will become scrapped and become nothing but a memory of just another internet shitstorm. Even though they pissed off, it dealt a grievous would to the modding community, defend your fucking hobby, don't let them kill it.

>>380007085
^^THIS^^

The mobile phone game industry, the greenlight (pre valve janitor) industry, basically any industry where you can make a quick buck, you're going to find people making copypasta shovel ware with no imagination.
>>
>>380004219
Yeh because it's clearly OK to monetize a 6 year old single player game that you already pay money to buy.
>>
>>380004219
as someone who makes mods, you're a faggot, paid mods are a fucking stupid idea.
>>
>>380005002
which mods have u made
>>
The issue of paying for mods is as following:
Sets up a transaction of business where the modder is now responsible for having a mod that works in a stable manner, doesn't have conflicts with other mods sold on the same ecosystem, and is maintained to continue said support

As a result, any mod storefront is now going to have to prune mods that don't play nice with some random golden horse cock mod that Joe McFuck made, making the available market for them a lot more limited then when they're hosted on something like nexus.

So you end up with a smaller market, with a higher demand and pressure on the people doing this out of love for the game, and an overall worse experience for everyone involved except for whoever is controlling the market and taking their cut.

Do they really need to monetize every single thing in games? Aren't they making enough money from the sales of the games?
>>
>>380007289
But it will. Why do something for free when you can instead make money?
>>
>>380007949
>Sets up a transaction of business

And how is going to moderate that transaction or business is observed to a T., write rules, regulations and laws for it? Do you seriously think Bethesda will care? Their opening rule claims that "existing mods will not be sold and we are looking for new content", but it's just a pretty fucking piece of text that can be very cleverly interpreted, by making a "new" mod that is the same fucking thing but with a different name and several altered features. This is the word of business and law, the wording is fucking everything and theirs is incredibly transparent and vague. Just vague enough to be ruthlessly exploited for profit.

In the same way when you're sold a product, and it doesn't work as advertised or as a "reasonable person" would expect it to function, the company becomes liable and the consumer has the right to a refund/exchange/other settlement. If they advertise a mod that includes cocks for all the horse mounts in the game, but because you bought the lusty argonian maid mod, the game crashes and breaks, they're liable. They sell a product, they need to ensure it does what it advertises.

Nothing. They are not held accountable for it, unless you have trouble with mods that claim to be officially compatible and even, then the most they can do is just forward complaints to the modder and have him release the compatibility patch asap. For all the rest, you'll be just getting a nice disclaimer that "We are not held accountable for any loss of data or damage to your game, computer, penis or brain if you install incompatible or unsupported modifications".

not good enough for most civilised marketplaces
bethesda advertises that every mod on its platform works with every other mod. if it doesn't work as advertised, they're obligated to either refund you or make sure it does.

what's the disconnect here, again? are you saying they're allowed to lie about their additional content working, or something?

since you'll probably repeat yourself: it doesn't matter if the mod makers didn't collaborate; they aren't the ones promising the mods all play nice with one another and charging you 500 pip-coins each.
