What will it take for Japanese SRPGs to become relevant again? What will it take for them to actually sell?

Compile Heart tier waifu bullshit needs to die in JRPGs. Waifufaggotry is acceptable in small doses it should never be the point of your game
Migration back to consoles is actually helping. We had 2 gens of SRPGs mainly on handhelds
Online elements are damn near a necessity for all the kids these days so pvp battles and co-op missions need to be a thing

>to become relevant

That doesn't really correlate with quality.
Anyway, have there been any good SRPGs released lately? The last notable game I can remember was Fire Emblem Conquest, which was tainted by some of the worst writing I've ever seen.

You mean Japanese ones? The only thing I look forward to is the PC release of Disgaea 3.

If you're knowledgeable about western SRPGs, could you tell me what the best ones are? I'm a fan of Battle for Wesnoth, Jagged Alliance 2, and XCOM but otherwise I haven't found anything good.

If you haven't played Silent Storm, play it. You'll love it, if you liked JA.
Regalia of Men and Monarchs was made by Polacks, unless you put them on the right just because it looks like from Japland
