Persona 5 is the dullest and most tedious JRPG experience I've had in years, possibly.
Like, I can't call the game bad, as the polish and effort shows.

But it's the worst beginning 10-15h I've ever played in terms of gameplay in a modern JRPG. Made me just stop. Doing dungeons in as little as possible wasted days is utter cancer in P5 early on. Then you get to the bosses, and they are piss easy as it is. So the only challenge of ANY sort that comes from the game, is from not wasting precious SP. Fuck you game too.

Persona since 3 is the kind of series that's so tedious and bad in pacing, that replaying them feels like a true chore, basically making them be nothing more than one-shot deals. Tales of Berseria was fun to play, that's for sure, and it maintained a brisk narrative pace for almost the entirety of its duration.

How is P5's story? I hear a lot of memespouting about "le fuck adults xD", how much of that is true? What about the timegating (?), or something about how the cat fucks up your schdedule. How restrictive is it?

The cat won't let you do anything if there was even an ounce of story on that day. Persona 3 gives you an entirely month (from the part I've played), 5 kinda feels like you get a few weeks in comparison.

the "le fuck adults" thing is eh, people exaggerate it and make it cheesy and pretend it isn't well done or pretend that every single adult in the game is a shithead which is just false.

You'll probably like this.
The story is fine, it is about rebelling against society (but there are tons of adult social links so it's not even close to "fuck adults"), the cat will fuck up your schedule, and while it doesn't feel great for him to tell you to go the fuck to bed, there are more than enough days to do whatever you want to do.
Just remember to turn your DVDs in on time.
