Just finished watching all the MS trailers on YouTube.

Holy shit, my jaded ass is actually keen for something vidya-related for the first time in god knows how long.

Definitely buying an Xbonx day one with crackdown and super lucky's tale, the last night looks absolutely jaw dropping and I'm cautiously optimistic about anthem.

Definitely not a fan of MS conferences usually, but fuck they've done well this year and actually hyped me up.

Phil Spencer handled the conference really well, he communicated that he had to put on the sales man pitch and that he might be a kinda chill dude irl. Still though, the Xbox doesnt have exclusives.

Looks like a nice machine for sure, but at this stage I already have a PS4 Pro. They haven't announced anything truly exclusive that makes me think "okay sure, I might pick this up eventually." The most realistic outcome I see for tipping me toward it is if future games that are for both Xbox and PS4, but not PC, struggle to perform on PS4 but do well on the Xbox One X.

I'm not going to rule it out entirely yet, but I'm not holding my breath either.

REMINDER that Anthem is a multi platform Division, Warframe, Destiny clone that will be rendered at accurate 4k/60fps ONLY on PC. We all know all this spec shit on consoles in the past doesn't render at 60 fps once the action starts flying all over the screen, especially on xXboneXx hardware. So realistically this game is PC - xXboneXx - PS4Pro - PS4 - Xbone on the scale of things for experience.

Thus if you didn't buy into meme PS4Pro and this xXboneXx, you get it on PS4 unless you want the best experience possible which is PC.

I already have an Xbox, so I have no need to buy an X. The only game that looked interesting was Cuphead.

A lot of people will whine about fake exclusivity with many games also being on Windows 10, but I think it's a bit short sighted to not consider the fact that all it really does is make those games more accessible to people. Not everyone wants to build a powerful PC. The X is a good alternative that doesn't cost a grand. Got a great PC? You can pick up an xbone controller and play all those games you may want that are on the system.

An xbox is a legit good investment now. Microsoft has made it clear they want all games - past present and future - to be compatible with future Xboxes. They might be losing to PS4 on the short term, but in the long term investing in the xbox infastructure is the better option. They are totally committed to making xbox OS the ultimate gaming OS with full backwards compatibility

Whereas Sony are just sitting on their hands. Playstation is on the way down. People need to join the winning team. Join xbox

I don't give two shits about how powerful a machine is. What I want is fucking video games. And since I already have a PC, were I to buy a console, it would be for the exclusives. Which probably means PS4 is the way to go, although I don't really have enough free time to justify buying another machine just for access to a few more games when I already have an intimidating backlog.

$500 for a multiplat machine that runs faster than the older versions doesn't seem like a great deal to me, but maybe if you fell for the 4k tv meme and you're shopping for your very first console of this generation?

Even if i swap out the 3200MHz DDR4 Ram for the 2400MHz for $189 instead and disregard the HDD enclosure since thats just for me, compare all that to the $650AUD for an Xbox One X and you can see why.

I play on a fancy schmancy expensive gaming PC
I play big budget games, small budget games, emulate every console and have adapters to use the proper controller with most of them on top of a ton of other things.
But there's something I've run into a ton in real life that people fall victim to with their PC that I dont think I've ever once seen mentioned here on /v/,
Some people just don't fucking need a gaming PC.

I know a friend who got a gaming PC. Got an ultrawide keyboard for his tiny desk, got a absolutely miniature mouse to make up for, and then just proceeded to play shitty indies games because he didn't know what to do and didn't want to spend a lot of money.
My roommate one year built a crazy pc and only played dark souls 1-3 on it. Not even like constantly with his one on the meta either. Just like the one time. Oogled at the Witcher 3's graphics once, and then never beat it. Occasionally played GTA V. Honestly if he had gotten a PS4 he would have been up a souls game and maybe not been too bothered by the graphics in GTAV too badly, he didn't use DSfix.
I know a couple other real life examples.
And then there's half of /v/ who own thousand dollar shitposting machines.

This is how i see it. Microsoft started slow, but thats because investments and geting all this shit to work takes time. Once they ramp up support and production and people want the best console without having to pay a ton for a pc, it will slowly start racking up more sales. New games will play best on the X, and xbox and 360 games will pad out the library and fill in missing spots for games/genres that are no longer made today

Microsoft is playing the long game and had they announced this in 2013, the name xbox one (all in one) would have made more sense and people would be more supportive

Well, for stuff like movies it's actually not quite as big a deal as they're making it out to be. Strictly speaking, it increases the range of lights and darks so that you can have a higher contrast image without crushing/sacrificing detail. Ideally, it should actually ADD detail. But as I said, with film, where the lighting, framing, post-prod, etc. can all be tightly controlled, you generally already get a pretty good amount of detail to begin with.

The biggest application for HDR will be sports. Or would be, because in an ironic twist most sporting events probably won't be recorded and broadcast in HDR for a long time. But that's another story. The reason sports would benefit is incidentally the same reason games benefit -- namely, since they're live events with a lot of unpredictable action, the lighting conditions vary all over the place. You have to do all kinds of postprocessing shit to try and bring everything down to standard dynamic ranges, and that makes image quality suffer. With high dynamic range, you don't need to do as much of that, you can just let the image be captured au naturale. Of course, games operate in a sort of medium ground where lighting is partially controlled, but with more physically-accurate rendering happening, they're also starting to bump up against SDR restrictions.

tl;dr HDR makes it easier for game artists to use realistic, natural lighting with more detail and better contrast. The tl;dr on the TV front is that current HDR sets basically use primitive prototype technology that will vastly improve in the next couple of years. Only suckers early adopters are buying in right now.

Yea it looks great. Sure, $500 is a lot of money for all us poor fags, but it's entirely reasonable for what the console can do. People forget that brand new phones go for $800+ these days.

Also another important thing to note is the fact that it's really an upgrade. You'll be fine with your xbox one/one s for a while. I know I will.

Also they showed a shitload of games, and I was excited by a surprising amount of them. Many of them I'm cautiously excited about since they have potential, but unfortunately will probably fall flat on their face (I'm looking at you assassin's creed).

The hardware inside the x as well as the value it can potentially provide, its substantial and $500 is more than fair.
