The guy ran back on forth on the beach for dramatic effect. This game is one glorious fetch quest system with puzzles for treasure that can be found on a lets play or easily spoiled over the net.
It uses transition between islands using a map so you aren't exactly sailing on the free seas.
People are going to be babied so when their loot gets stolen they are going to nerf the loss / pirating reward system because of the casuals and people who know how to play the game properly.
There are not enough social game type activities to encourage forming new party crews, it's a game that depends on who you know, and we all know how anti-social gamers are.
There won't be chat / mingling lobbies to remove possible instances of cancerous talk. This effectively removes pub brawling / places to socialise and organise a crew since it will be instance base, just like the map selection.

It will be like Destiny where the game will only bring in a few number of players onto the map, you won't have gigantic ship battles of 3 on 3 pirate crews, etc.

Stupid to have it as a Microsoft exclusive, needs to be on Sony consoles to be successful, cucks.

Yeah the musket reloading takes forever, and the sword combat looked pretty basic, but the overall idea is still solid. I won't pay full price as is, but as a budget title I'll get it with my friends and make pirate noises while searching for treasure. of course it doesn't have a lot of depth, but not every game needs to to have 40+ hours of novel content

I just want a good Pirate video game that isn't Sid Meier's. This looks like the closest so far, but it develops at a Snail's pace and the actual gameplay is lacking so far.

I've played it; it's fun, but extremely rough. They implemented a LOT of random little things and almost none of them are polished enough to be passable. Combat is bad, sailing is uninteresting, the mechanics have no explanation, enemy variety is limited, puzzles are braindead simple, etc. Music and art direction are stellar though.

Risen was shit, potc games were all shit, overboard was a puzzle game, Legend of Black Cat was pretty bad. Windward was alright but it's just East India Trading company with some explosions and basic ship fighting.

Compare that to the 40 thousand games about ninjas, samurai, any fucking war past 1900 even. I just want a goddamn pirate game.

I mean it'd help if I had friends to play Sea of Thieves with, so I'm fucked really. But goddamnit I want a pirate game with some fucking substance, and Sid Meier won the fight 30 years ago and the remake 13 years ago was still so good nobody tried since.

It honestly is pretty fucking weird considering how cool pirate shit is thematically; You can inject it with as much or as little high fantasy type shit as you want and can conceptualize all kinds of gameplay stuff. Almost every pirate game is half assed and uninspired. I legitimately have no idea as to why no good big budget modern pirate games exist. Closest would be Black Flag probably, which is still pretty mediocre due to the underpinning AC bullshit.

Honestly, it's very weird considering how little pirate anything we get. I mean I remember being hype as fuck when PotC was first announced because fuck yes who doesn't want a movie about pirates? But when you look into it, it's pretty hard to find any good pirate media.

I recently scoured all the bookstores in my city for a copy of Captain Blood, an old classic pirate novel which got a penguin classics edition (meaning it should be as easy to find as shakespeare or any other famous novel, like little women/wuthering heights or don quixote etc) and it took fucking FOREVER to find and was like $25 a copy but I eventually found a used bookstore that had an old print that was $5 new, and goddamn was it worth the hunt the book is amazing. Far better than On Stranger Tides which I picked up to see if it was better than the PotC "adaption" (it was.)

I wouldn't be surprised if we've seen a downplay of the topic because it sorta promotes stealing and fighting and shit. And forgetting the origins of piracy being a bunch of dudes who wanted to start an off the grid life, all from different counties who were sick of their government so they took off and did their own thing until spain wrecked their shit so they took to boats to fuck up spain and that's where pirates sorta came from. (as in the 1600's golden age of piracy of the Caribbean/Barbary coast type pirates)

Doesn't help when you get all the confusing terminology like buccaneers (named after the meat smoking dudes who got fucked up by spain) corsairs, privateers, pirates, freebooters etc.

Fuck maybe I should make my own fucking game.
