>"Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter. Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom’s story in the greatest Metro adventure yet"

It's not. The key feature of open world is not being limited as much by the story (i.e. is allowed more freedom than in other genres) in terms of how accessible the world is. This is present in stalker, this is present in Fallout games, they are open world. Has nothing to do with whether the levels are segmented or not.

They are open world games though, just because you have a hate modern open world games does not mean you change what open world games are.

>>379948013
Yes both of them are open world, I mean its such a simple thing to understand.

There is a world.

Its open.

You can explore all around it, you can back track, there is side stuff to do, etc.

Just because its not "capture these copy pasted outposts" type gameplay does not mean its not open world. You are just too used to those type of open world games you just can't understand good open world games.

I get this but see, nuclear decay happens over a long period of time. If this is based on the 2035 novel and the air wasn't clean in 2034, then it sure as fuck isn't breathable now all of a sudden.

I'll accept leaving moscow as a good enough reason though.

Well there was two small stories of people living on the surface, one of a tank crew and 2 women living in the wilderness, before suddenly losing transmission eventually. Another of some place up on the surface way up north in Russia. Think it was Murmansk or something. There's a book on that one anyway.
>>
>>379956440
Nope, its a myth that fallout lasts for so long. Most modern nukes have a lethal fallout of at most 6 months and Cobalt salted bombs designed to spread fallout, lasts about 107 years.

You are confusing them with nuclear waste which does last a long time but they don't produce enough boom to spread them far, hence the waste.

Not really, people were moving back into Hiroshima and Nagasaki not long after the bombs fell. And those kicked out a LOT of radiation in comparison to modern nuclear weapons, which would likely be air-bursts (to cause max destruction, which coincidentally minimizes radiation).

The air is quite feasibly """"safe"""", even if it does almost certainly lead to higher cancer rates and higher mutations.

The developer's stated that at some points of the game it'll be linear like the previous titles, at other times it'll be non-linear and a sandbox, but not specifically open world.

Additionally the trailer presented is supposed to represent what the game will be like on Xbox One X, so it might look even better on PC honestly I doubt it'll look much different.

Metro had so many clam, cozy moments where you could just listen to the hum of the empty, cold tunnels.
I felt they were moments where Artyom could take a breather from the stress of being the only person from his home station on the journey.

I also loved the eerie scene of the dead guys soles at the abandoned station in LL

Give me a reason why you'd have to play vanilla first? The first time you play STALKER, it's a magical experience, you really feel like a newbie in the zone and everything is really spooky and atmospheric. But the second time you play STALKER, it goes from a 9/10 experience into a 8/10 experience, since it's not so atmospheric anymore.

So why would you make your first playthrough a 9/10 experience when you could make it a 10/10 experience by modding it?

And don't say
>"Well, to appreciate the mods"
Because there's no reason why you'd have to know the changes
>"Well, it's a risk to play a mod first, it might be a bad mod and you won't enjoy it"
Same applies to the base game, you don't know if it's gonna be a good game, you're doing the same exact coinflip here
>"Well, it's bad for a firstimer because the mods don't tell you the basic info"
False, all of the big mods don't take any info away
>"Well, it's buggy"
The big, popular mods are no less buggy than the vanilla game. Most of the bugs come from the awful engine, and there's nothing you can do about that
>>380020670
No one's arguing that you shouldn't apply bugfixes, that's a given

>>
>>380021353
I see you can't argue against it, got it. Literally no one that goes "b-but vanilla first! D:" has been able to yet
>>
>>380021461
It's the game the developers made and sold. With bugfixes and patches, it stands to be played first, before some autismo mods that add a gorillion gun skins, and actually take time to fuck around with. There literally is no argument.

Not to mention, I have already said that I played these games close to release, and I really have better shit to do than go back and play them again but this time with more gun skins! and weather! and fetch quests! and whatever else is *NEW* but not in any way special
besides there's obviously a fresh new stalkan game coming out this year, why in the fuck would I get burned out on stalkan NOW?

It'll turn a very believable and realistic franchise to... well worthless. What's the point of anything when the Russian Gov & NATO is still alive and well? On top of that they're still killing each other. Again it's a neat idea, but it soils and ruins the whole Metro feeling.

Well ultimately you have got to consider that even in the case of a maximum-scale nuclear exchange, certain places would just plain not get nuked. Such as Africa. Who'd bother wasting nukes on Africa? Or South America. Those places are going to end up largely untouched, save for certain spots that certain global players have parked a small military base on that's worth blowing up, and eventual nuclear winter or fallout spread by global airstreams like the slipstream.

So a Brazilian ship landing with soccer balls aplenty on a relief mission to alleviate some of the irradiated Europeans' suffering isn't so far fetched.

The Metro games weren't as popular as you think they were. They weren't failures per-se, but they're not very big or popular games. I would say I'm surprised to have seen it at E3, but they'll showcase just about any game at it now because they're desperate for games
>>
>>380041745
Aye, true. But that's different from the shadow government controlling every faction in the Metro like the bloody illuminati.
(Also keep in mind the ensuring fallout from the nukes would've killed most people around the world, at least in the few weeks/months after the bombs dropped.)
That and how NATO is still at war with Russia, and that they're trying to keep Moscow hidden from NATO...... yeah that just sounds absurd and makes the actual contemporary Metro setting feel pointless (Polis, Reich, Hanza, & the Commies.) They're all being puppeteered which is unrealistic, especially when the Russian Gov decides when to start wars just for population control for the whole Metro.... it truly diminishes the whole feeling of humanity trying their best to survive the literal mad-made apocalypse.

I literally never heard of any of that and I read the books good, and the German versions too. The English ones got butchered by bad translation but the German ones are very well made (lots of East German dual mother tounge people, go figure).

The only stuff that was mentioned in my versions about the Invisible Watchers was one of the many, many MANY urban-legend style stories that station inhabitants and other survivors were just chatting to each other about, unsubstantiated rumors and blather. Same as the Emerald City aka the old Moscow University not having sunk into the marshes around itself because of the soft soil its built on yet, the stated / suspected reason by the inhabitants of the metro being that it's still powering the freezers for the soil around it with their old experimental nuclear reactor. It's all just hearsay and mysterious rumors, which adds to all the mystery of the metro.

Yeah, in the book Metro 2035, the Invisible watchers are real. They're the Russian Government, which still exists, and they are at war with NATO, meaning WWIII never ended.....
>>380044712
This anon's right, it gets really stupid at times, personally I think it's interesting, but abhorrently stupid for Metro's tone and setting. (The games at least)
>>
>>380043681
It's a moral point, but you can get a lapdance and still get a good ending, the devs weren't too nazi about it. Sure, "technically" the virus should be Artyom's prirority but come on, it was a minute long dance.
>>
>>380045103
Why are you guys obsessed with the russian govt? So after the nukes fell obviously some part of it, in some very secret high-tech installation survived and is still influencing the country. Doesn't sound too bad, I'd roll with those guys. The Order was always a bit too hippy for me, and I wouldn't want a world where commies and nazis unironically have stations/power and aren't just controlled opposition.

Anyone else do the non-lethal playthrough? That fucking Pavel fight, holy shit. Artyom is basically a super-soldier who shoots people in the knee then runs up to them for the TKO
>>

>non lethal
>in the post apocalypse
Unless I have special reasons, if you shoot at me, you have signed your own death warrant.

>Fallout 1 and 2 were open world games

Fallout only became openworld by the third game. In 1 and 2 you could only go to specific locations on the map.
>>
>>380050476
I didn't do it first time, but I did it for the achievement later on, holy fuck that Red Square fight was brutal. Also that depot right after escaping Moskvin and Korbut, I forget what the level was called, was hard to complete keeping stealth + non-lethal
>>
>>380050898
None of the games in the post you're quoting are open world. I think that's his point.
>>
>>380050476
I've done it for the achievement but I didn't enjoy it. Lethal stealth is patrician-tier.
>>
>>380050854
You're playing as a stalkin ranger, who has to go through places where he isn't welcome. If you want to mass-murder everything every time you pass through, that'd make for a pretty empty metro. It makes sense RP-wise to having non-lethal be the first option. Also you get to murder monsters as much as you want and I took out my hate on the bandits too, fuck 'em.

I said "if you shoot at me". Doesn't mean I'll be fucking loud and have everyone see me so they can shoot at me. But the fucking boss fight against the infinite horde that Pavel rolled up that came completely covered in armor wouldn't be something I'd like to take on trying to kneecap and then punch them out. That's just esoteric madness tier.
>>
>>380051149
Red line is literally a stealth mission dude, you can fucking sleepwalk that shit.
>>
>>380051850
> get wallhacks from alien-friend
> disable 20+ elite troopers who will live to tell the tale of the legendary artyom who survived an impossible ambush
> those men will then probably still be of use to the metro, once commie leadership comes to senses

not really madness-tier, more like a worthy cause
>>
>>380052280
What wallhacks? I remember only getting that for like five seconds.
>>
>>380052409
you got them for a couple waves, and you could instantly tell how many people and from where are coming at you
the cheevo is called shadow ranger, so this fight separates the boys from the men, I guess ;)
>>
>>380023279
You can mass murder your way through both games, as long as you make every morally correct decision, the game will give you the 'good' ending.
>>
>>380052639
I did 2033 (the OG version, not the redux) nonlethal stealth for most of the game (Frontline map and that one Reich base comes to mind).
>did it when I had bad internet at home
>tfw none of the achievements
It still pisses me off
>>
>>380052280
>commie leadership comes to senses
Yeah I kinda doubt that, with how they will be blamed for the chemical attack on Oktyabrskaya (which was also planned to break Hansa in half), breaking the peace agreement by simultaneously invading the Rangers and the Reich at the same time (and utterly failing on both fronts).
I don't think the Ranger survivors from D6 (and Polis by extension), Hanza or the Nazi's will be so forgiving for the Commies sperging out trying to conquer the whole Metro. With the loss of equipment and manpower, i'm pretty sure the Commie leadership would be paranoid and will be far from coming to their senses.

>>380052927
Yeah, this is true, I remember fondly for murder-fucking literally everything and still getting the good ending for Last Light. (except Pavel, he's a real bro, and I never had the heart to kill him, even if he's a commie.)
>>
>>379950376
All you need to do is hit the inventory menu at start and spam gas mask button, it clears the level automatically.
>>
>>380053183
Stealth in original 2033 is actually challenging because you don't have an 'I win' takedown button, if you want to do nonlethal it's even harder.
>>
>>379944593

"Lazy" ya'll gotta stop saying this man. Do you have any idea the amount of time and effort it takes to create shit like this? It ain't shovelware ya damn dingus!
>>
I just watched trailer and I see mutants in it.
Was lack of them in 2035 was ever explained?
>>
>>380053381
You wouldn't get the good ending if you spared Pavel and killed Lesnitskiy. Both have to live.
Also, I don't know how you've been playing the game, but the theme of nazi/commie leaders just straight up conscripting every single male is very prevalent, so when going through stations and such I never really felt like killing random dudes who'd be chilling and listening to music for instance. Then others I killed 100% like guys who'd brag about ambushing the Order and taking guns of them, etc
>>
What was the canon ending to last light?
>>
>>380056818
Must be the good one, since otherwise Artyom wouldn't be alive to do the Exodus.
>>
>>380054039
I think you can spare one and kill the other, if you literally get no other bad moral points throughout the game. I think Lesnitskiy has a much higher moral weight than Pavel and if you kill him you pretty much can't get good end, IIRC
>>
>>380057290
>>380054039
I killed Lesnitzky and let Pavel live and got the good end. I farmed basically every moral point for it tho.
>>
>>380057290
That's weird, it should be the other way around. Pavel is a cool guy.
>>380057485
How many kills on normal enemies did you have?
>>
>>380054039
Wrong, you can kill Lesnitsky and still get the Redemption ending. You'll have to get every moral point in the game, or close to it, and you'll be fine. But if you kill both than yeah, bad ending all around.

Also, it's amusing how you mention that one Nazi with the gun from a Ranger. He never ambushed the Ranger, he just grabbed the blokes gun, he never said he killed anyone.

Also keep in mind they're a great many people in the Metro, they're around 15,000 people living in the Red Line alone. On top of that not everyone can be conscripted, the factions still need farmers, engineers, plumbers, etc.
Besides from the look of it no one besides the Red Line seem to be conscripting, i'm not sure about Hanza, Polis has guards which I assume are volunteers.

>>380057290
I know for a fact that if you kill Pavel, it is an almost certainty that you will get the bad ending. However Lesnitsky isn't weighed as much as Pavel, but for Lesnitsky his only good trait is that he's a loyal and successful soldier of the Red Line. He does a great job at killing hundreds with the virus, he betrays the Rangers and he threatens to kill future your Russian Waifu. Trust me, they made sure that killing Lesnitsky wouldn't automatically get you the bad ending.
>>
>>380057597
I snuck past most ones that I could; not even knocking anybody out. Some of the moral points are total bullshit to get though. Like that one for crossing that bridge and not getting noticed by the Watcher pack and therefore not having to kill any of them. That was total ass, so I didn't do it and just shot my way through after like the sixth attempt where I got noticed by one of them from across the map. Basically every Red or Nazi section that I could totally sneak through I did though. I think I did kill Bandits though.
>>
>>379945338
yes, let's just arbitrarily change the definitions of words when someone proves us wrong. where the fuck does seamless have any bearing on open endedness? if seamlessness was what made an open word game, then the elder scrolls games aren't open world, but haunting ground is.

you're a fucking imbecile
spoilered just in case you didn't already know.
>>
>>380057597
I spared all the Nazi's but killed all the Bandits and Commies. I didn't sneak though, I always went in guns blazing so extra reinforcements would come. I killed Lesnitsky, but I spared Pavel. Got the good ending, although I had to get most of the moral points in the game.

I never kill Pavel. After all, we are all brothers in the metro.

>>
>>380056818
Redemption. Cest La Vie leaves only the nazis alive to pursue the metro. Polis, the Order, the Reds, and most free stations are gone otherwise by what Artyom detonates if it isn't. I don't see any Nazi flags so it was probably Redemption with the Order heading the expansion.
>>
>>380058456
He never states he himself, ambushed and killed a Ranger. He says "we" meaning many, or a group (or possibly the whole faction at large). He also says "whacked" not ambushed, meaning a group of Reich stalkers could've captured and killed (or just get into a normal firefight with) a Ranger which is eerily similar to what happened to Artyom.
Also the Rangers mention Nazi stalkers a fair bit at D6, capturing a Ranger and killing him, and that they get into firefights with Red Line Stalkers. Judging from the mans gear, he is not a Reich stalker, but just a lowly Grunt.
>>
>>380059335
The gun-trophy is something that's usually reserved for somebody who was actually in the fight, hence "trophy". I doubt lowly grunts get their pick of custom weapons, dude is easily a squad leader or some such. Died by an ambush himself in my playthrough ;)
>>
>>379965898
I loved it when you would see the ghosts in the corner of your eye and when you went to look it'd be gone. The little shit is was makes this series great.
>>
>>380059615
He never claims it's a trophy. If he said that I wouldn't be arguing with you. The reason I am arguing with you, is because of his choice of words. He never outright states anything that you claim he did, you're killing the man based on an assumption.
He is also definitely not a squad leader, considering the guy who's talking to him converses with him very casually, there's some banter, some swears thrown at each other. Considering how they both reacted to the Radio, they are of equal rank.

Likewise, he and every Nazi I saw died with a bullet to the head, or a knife to the throat ;)

I want more guns. If we're going outside of Metro Moscow, I want to find the remains of an NATO assault force. Maybe I could loot a MG3 machine gun out of an old, broken down Leopard 2 tank.
