Seriously though, tekken 7 isn't nearly at the level of SF5. It has arcade mode, story mode, etc etc. Lacking tutorial and trials is more an annoyance. Again, I can't remember another tekken game having trials, but I rarely played them (and been a long time since T6 and TTT2).

Online play also severely hurts competitive fighter sales. People used to play with their friends and slowly learned things. Now you play online where people are looking up strategies online and practicing forcing others to do the same. Those are good sales figures for Japanese console games. It's sold decently on Steam in Japan too, believe it or not. Alot of buzz about the PC version in Japan, and Bamco have started to advertise their steam ports and sell them natively.

Console market is dying over there. Guess it's worth saying that Tekken 7 sold three times as well on PC than it did in the entirety of Japan, although that's global on PC... But it's worth saying that PC games are slow burners and sell well. So they'll always be making revenue through sales and the like, where console games drop off pretty fast..

This is why JP devs are porting to PC.

No, SF5 has no arcade mode. SF5 has the "character stories", which have 2-4 fights that are usually just one round. It also has survival mode which is either easy as fuck (on easy) or just fucking frustrating at higher levels.

I think so. Doujin games are finding new audiences and there seems to be a resurgence. There's no like, PC-98 or equivalent that some hardcore homebrewers are going crazy over, but VR has alot of excitement around it that feels reminiscent and in the same vein.
