That's wrong on two accounts. When you side walk, you move towards your opponent a little. Secondly, the time Akuma takes do jump back and throw a fire ball is way more than the time needed to sidestep the said fireball. There's plenty of time to close the distance in the meanwhile.

Just went in to training mode and recorded akumas jump back fireball and made sure he blocks after it.
He literally can do anything for 1 second after he hits the ground after it including block.

Simple sidestep in to literally any attack punishes this shit hard.

The sidestep animation is so short compared to akumas jump back fireball that you literally have enough time to run up to your opponent and hit him using any attack other than the ling ass unblock ones.

Jump back fireball is useless in this game other than using it vs scrubs who still dont get that this is a 3d fighting game.
