Sakamoto has said he's moving onto new projects and not working on Metroid. Not a surprise since the last two games he worked on, fans blamed him for everything.

In the last interview where someone in Nintendo mentioned Metroid, Miyamoto and a guy by the name of Shinya Takahashi said they would like to see Metroid get both a new 2D and 3D game.

I'm one of the people who liked Fusion back when everyone was claiming it killed the series. But no, it's not better than Zero Mission, Super or even Metroid II.

If Nintendo really wants to test the waters with Metroid, give Metroid II a remake like Metroid I got. I personally don't need a Metroid II remake as the original GB game is still my favorite in the series. But most of the kiddies who started with Super can't be bothered to play the game.

Fusion tried something different instead of being yet another shallow Super Metroid clone. Metroid needed to modernize not constantly be corbon copies of Super Metroid. Metroid 5 needs to combine Fusion with Zero Mission so we can have Fusion's story and Zero Mission's gameplay and exploration and this could be the modernize version of 2D Metroid.

I like Fusion, but no A future game shouldn't be story focused like Fusion. That's what Other M did.

If anything, Metroid needs to go back to its roots. Go back to the days where 'story' in a Metroid game is 2 minutes of Samus talking in her log. Then you're put on a planet and let loose to find everything on your own.

Scanning data in Metroid Prime was actually a good hands off way to allow for story and still have freedom. But they put way too much stuff to scan and being able to miss some scan data totally killed it. Also future Metroid games, even a 3D one, shouldn't be first person. They have the technology to make a true 3D Metroid. And we should be getting both a 2D and 3D game, much like Mario does.

False. Fusion and Zero Mission didn't bring in many new fans. They sold about as much as Super did. They would need to do something new yet again to bring in new fans.

Of course, there's an argument to be made that if 2D Metroids sell about 1-1.5 million each, you can just keep making them and cater to those fans. This is what Castlevania did. I think most of the IGA Castlevanias were lackluster rehashes of SotN, but clearly there was a dedicated fanbase for them. And moving away from that hurt Castlevania.

The real solution to Metroid is to just make both 2D and 3D games. Have the 2D games retain what people like about the old Metroid while the 3D games try new things and go off in a new direction like Prime did. All the 'new' fans would go for the 3D games anyway. Just like they did with Prime.

And if you haven't collected enough missile packs and energy packs, the Ridley fight becomes near impossible. Especially on hard.
