Itt: well-written charachters
>made out to be a legendary soldier
>was actually an unimaginative, inflexible general
>one of the few in The Legion who earned their position through nepotism
>Jed says that he was the toughest soldier in The Legion, not even screaming when being lit on fire and tossed down the Grand Canyon
>when pressed, tells you that he's in unbearable pain
>doubts his God every single day
>portrayed as ruthless
>can't go out and just kill the White Legs, has to think of it as a divine mission instead
>has to fit everything in the context of his worldview, absolute fanatic
He has the looks of one of those edgy characters that everyone hates (think Shadow the Hedgehog or reboot Dante), but is a complete subversion of expectation.
My only gripe with him is that the subversion of expectation may be overemphasized, and consequently may subvert his personality. The writers focused too much on being clever to further explore the implicated self-doubt he has about having returned to New Canaan. While it is hinted at, he never explicitly states that he feels guilty about having brought about his people's doom, even though it would've added another dimension to the character. As it is now, the cause of his conversion back to mormonism is obfuscated. His guilt about having nrought about the New Canaanites' doom, his fanatical personality and his failure as a general constitute the real basis of his personality, which remains unclear because these aspectes are never properly connected to one another in a grander pricture.
