Reminder that this Nintendo is dead.

The Nintendo of motion controls, of casual-focused games and marketing, of Iwata Asks and 3D displays, of Wii branding and touchscreens, of children, of senior citizens, of Miiverse and Brain Age and Wii Sports, of legacy support and eShop experiments, is dead, and it died in 2015.

The new Nintendo under Kimishima is one of smartphones and mobage, of eSports and Nintendo Versus, of a focus on Gen X and gamers in their 20s and 30s, of closer attention to market trends, of voice chat and premium online, of online personalities and game streaming, of stripping out the "gimmicks" and going back to what its competition is doing and returning it focus to "core gamers".

Some say good riddance.
Some lament its passing.

For better or worse, Nintendo is not the same company it was even two and a half years ago. Anyone with an attachment, or grudge, towards Iwata's Nintendo is directing their emotions towards an entity that no longer exists.

This is what you wanted. You bought the PS4. You told the industry this was okay and yet there was the Wii U with that feature that you oh-so-conveniently ignored.

Same with paid online. If you have PS+, you're the reason Switch will be charging for online.

I assure you, I know far more about Nintendo than you likely do, to the level some would call "autistic obsession". I know every game, every accessory, every system model they ever made. I study their history and backlog as a hobby.

Let's be honest, neo /v/ doesn't know what a game is anymore. They're the type of people who would praise Gone Home and TLOU over games like Banjo or Xenoblade.

I was talking about exclusives.

Somehow a console having Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Overwatch doesn't count as games.

BOTW and Mario Cart 8 aren't exclusives.

Umm am I supposed to be sad? Also Iwata started the phone garbage and esports. Millennials are 36 year olds to people age 19 I'm saying this because /v/ and a lot of this site seem to be under the impression that much younger people are millennial's when they aren't and infact most of the people with millennial rage are unknowingly millennial's themselves.. Gen X (my parent's age) don't care about games or at least they didn't grow up with them and they aren't a regular part of their lives to the extent that they're for people even slightly younger than the lowest hanging Gen X fruit. Nintendo needed good online service it was a continuing embarrassment that they couldn't get something so basic right and they will probably still fuck this up anyway with at least one major title. Don't get your panties in a bunch about "core gamers" I'm sure Reggie will still make at least one cringe worthy remark about "needing to broaden the appeal away from our core fanbase" that you corporate dick riders love to hear so much. He says this at least one time at each E3 and the so called "Legendary 2004 event" Had a whole half hour of him telling the fan base to fuck off we don't need you segments interspersed throughout the presentation.

Why do people like the figureheads of these companies? Are they your best friends from school or some shit? Iwata was a business man who would rip you off if he could get away with it and believe me he tried.
>>
>>379818729
Kimishima is focused on what makes money, anon. Right now that's smartphones and competitive games (via events and DLC content like characters or lootboxes).

It could be worse. What if Iwata had made good on his promise to steer Nintendo on a path of caring about "health", or whatever ambiguous meaning that Nintendo Direct was about. We will never know.

The Switch is an interesting concept. The WiiU was better, but developers couldn't figure out how to make games for it that were interesting. The Switch's gimmick is much simpler, it'll spark a lot more interest.

I don't want to think of a future where the last actual Video Game company leaves the console market, leaving behind two megacorps that only care about immediate profits. On the other end, the gap left by Ninty calling it quits would open up space for a new company to show up.
>>
its sad that since Iwata passed away

Nintendo marketing seems to be shamelessly throwing out paid DLC and other greedy tricks

I missed Iwata bro

I get what you're saying, but how do asses make up for badly designed games with shit mechanics? Sure, they compliment games that are already good, much like good graphics in general do, but what if the base game is so shit it's beyond saving?

Mai's ass is the icing on the cake for a game as good as the King of Fighters '98, but no amount of ass could save Shaq Fu.

I'm glad I'm not getting a switch

Lots of people would praise Nintendo in the past for not doing paid online, for not doing bloom and shit, etc etc, but recent years have shown that Nintendo isn't actually better than those companies, they were just behind them.

When the industry is going downhill, the people who drag their feet look better.
>>
>>379831334
Why should it cost? Because big yakuza daddy Kimishima told you it should? This ain't the 90s anymore, grandpa. Game servers have no reason to cost a premium, especially lackluster ones like Nintendo's. Have you ever played Smash 4's online? I'm glad I don't have to play for that shit. It's laggy even when both me and a guy a small distance a way play with ethernet adapters. Why bother charging for what's likely only marginally improved online? Sony is also bullshitting us by charging for online now.
>>
>>379831549
by that logic, nothing should cost money.
>>
>>379831252
>Splatoon nigger doesn't understand a thing about controllers
Who would have thought.
>>
>>379832009
What the fuck are you trying to say? I never implied this AT ALL and you still haven't answered my question of why shitty, subpar online on a console that doesn't even natively support wired connections should cost money. Online is free on PC, used to be free on Wii U Wii, DS, 3DS, and Gamecube, Satellaview was free outside of the music station. Only time Nintendo ever charged for basic online was N64DD Randnet. Why bother switching back to paid services now? What's the point? Especially when the actual service isn't even worth the payment given its lackluster performance.
>>
>>379820010
gyro control can actually be good thought
>>
>>379825174

It's operating from the logic that anyone who goes to /v/ has a minimum standard of knowledge about the medium and isn't a casual normie and knows how to use a PC, and so logically playing any sort of shooter, which is what most games are these days, on anything other than a PC is extremely fucking retarded unless you can only get it on a specific machine and even then every game which has a multi-platform release usually is inferior in every single category to its PC counterpart and sometimes even has less content to boot.

Basically nobody counts Skyrim or Doom for consoles because you have to be too poor or stupid to be playing those games on something like a PS4.
