2D Metroid is still alive under Sakamoto. If Sakamoto's team isn't big enough then Nintendo will probably have Sakamoto's team work with a third party studio while Sakamoto produces it. I had a feeling that the Metroid game most likely in development was a 2D game, glad I wasn't incorrect.
